Am I a competitive applicant to the Ivies?

Thanks for taking the time to do this!

Specifically: UPenn, Cornell, University of Chicago, and Georgetown (I know, they’re not Ivies, but they’re the same caliber.)

These schools are really hard to get into and people with perfect credentials get rejected all the time, so I was wondering if I’m actually a competitive candidate.

So far, the only interview I’ve had was at Harvard, but that went really well. I believe I’ve missed the dates to request interviews for the others.

My test scores are sort of inconsistent:

SATs:
reading: 760
math: 800
writing: 780
composite: 2340

ACT: 34

SAT IIs:
Literature: 780
Math 2: 710
Physics: 670
French: 610
Chem: 610

APs:
taken:
World History: 5
English Lang: 5
French Lang: 4 (but I claimed to be fluent on the apps because I did an exchange program)
U.S. Gov: 5
Calc BC: 3 (AB subscore: 4)

planned:
French Literature
US History
Psychology
Physics C

IBs:
taken:
ITGS SL: 6
Physics SL: 4

planned:
Math HL
English HL
History HL
French HL

GPA: 3.79 unweighted/4.54 weighted

ECs:
Editor of the literary magazine, founded a service club, captain of an academic quiz team, member of 3 honor societies, Model UN, Mock trial, etc.

Employment: none

Honors: National Merit semifinalist, AP Scholar with distinction, state Distinguished Scholar, Mensa member

Essays: somewhat poor- they were erratic and disorganized, but I think I got across everything that I meant to

I listed potential majors as political science and economics, the most popular majors, but my essay was about how I want to be a politician. I don’t have alumni status everywhere, and I’m half Middle Eastern and half white. I took the most difficult course load available for the most part, but I was an aide for a semester in 10th grade and took on-level Arabic and Law classes in 11th grade because they didn’t offer honors classes. My school doesn’t rank, but I’m definitely in the top 10%.

Can I count on getting in to at least one of them?

I think you could be competitive but I don’t see anything that sticks out.

I tried to sort of market myself as being worldly… I speak several languages and I did an exchange program in France…

Well I don’t mean to be pessimistic about it, but if you really think your essays were “somewhat poor,” then I’m not too sure how you’ll fair at any ivy-caliber institution. From what I understand about the process, essays are the real “in” factor. Still, the fact that you’re multilingual and did an exchange program successfully is pretty impressive (I think so at least). Good luck, guy.

“composite: 2340”

Yea you’re competitive. By the way, you haven’t missed the UChicago interview requesting date. The deadline is today (4th), so log on to the site they sent you in their email and request it!

great stats, like every other applicant, um good shot at your ivies thought for sure, def. in at least one or two of them

I am not seeing an admit at Harvard, sorry! Maybe you have a chance at Chicago and Cornell, but the SAT scores do not represent your achivement on the subject test. Though, the NMS distinction may prove more helpful than I am giving you credit for. How you given consideration to Pomona, USC, Boston College, University of Michigan, Duke, New York University, Colgate, Reed, and Williams?

In addition to schools already mentioned, those who like U Chicago also often like Carelton, Grinnell, Oberlin and Swarthmore (but I know it’s getting late!).

You are just a dime a dozen they get thousands of applicants with the same grades and extracurriculars as you. Nothing makes you special so you probably won’t get in.
