Am I a decent applicant?

Hi all! I am a student in MA applying to a few schools for the 9th grade year.

My main goals are Middlesex, Concord Academy, & Commonwealth

I really like Commonwealth but there is like no info online about their acceptance rates and such.

Here’s my stats

General

82 percentile SSAT score

8th grader - applying for 9th

White male

Not to sound tacky, but I would say I have a very nice character and personality - I have never had a teacher that did not like me.

School

As of now, I got to a decent sized school in a suburb of MA (about 270 kids in my grade)

For eighth graders, my school has three math classes: 8th Grade Math (“low math,” grade standard), Algebra. 1 Comprehensive (“middle math”), and Algebra 1 Extensive (similar to Comp. but has more challenging tests and actually do the entire Alg. 1 Unit.

-I am in Extensive

In all of my classes (including past 2 years) I have received All A’s, and a couple A+’s

Extracurriculars

I really don’t do many extracurriculars, except Boy-scouts and a club at my school that essentially helps the unfortunate.

Sports

Just Tennis & hockey, no awards

Sounds like Commonwealth. They’re so big on sports but big on helping the unfortunate. I don’t know for sure, but unlike what I usually say, the SSAT may be an issue there. Lotta brainiacs.

Would you board at Middlesex or Concord?

Do kids from your school go to these places (are there school-to-school relationships)?

I was about to write some tips for essays until I realized that tmrw’s the due date

do school to school relationships boost up chances by a lot

I didn’t submit yet, so they may help!

definitely not by a lot. It probably will if they donate a bunch though. It can also help a bit if one of your parents went there

You should try to format your essays to bring out what you think are your best qualities (as you mentioned, your character is nice) but you should try to format it also with what is unique about your application. I wouldn’t mention much about your courses, but that club in your school isn’t something that many schools have. I don’t know if this advice is right, but I think that this is a good way to write your essays

Yes they do. If they are familiar with your school and have current students from there, it sheds light on the kind of student you may be there. More importantly, if they know your counselors, their recommendations will have greater context and credibility.

You are more than a decent applicant! Three difficult schools though.

it may be helpful that they are less popular than Milton, Nobles and even Rivers these days.
