I have 3.85 unweighted gpa, a 4.59 weighted gpa, I got a 5 on ap calc ab, us gov, and Spanish Lang. I got a 4 on english lang, apes, world history. I also have a 25 on act. Do you think I’m a fail Latino?

It depends…how good are you at soccer?

I don’t really understand what you mean by your post… First and foremost, you’re not “failing” as a latino. I myself am Cuban, and regardless of any scores, would consider myself worthy of my title…
As for being a student, no, you don’t fail as a student. Getting a 5 on an AP exam is good, and getting 4’s is great, too. The ACT is something you should consider upping unless you’re considering instate universities. Otherwise, get it in the 30+ range. As latinos, we still need to at least get a 30+ to be considered more on the safe side of admissions.
Your GPA is fine, even for HYP. Your weighted GPA won’t really matter much.
I also hope you realize that you or any other Latino on this board isn’t “failing.” The majority of Latinos in the United States don’t get a lot of the opportunities we have or don’t push themselves as hard in school either, so we’re doing better than them already. Essentially, you’re being a good student regardless of your race and that’s what matters.

Please don’t expect affirmative action to help in everything. In the real world…it doesn’t. The glass ceiling in the workforce will be there, and you’ll have to make your way to the top comparing your merits to everyone else’s, not just those of the Latinos. Again, you don’t fail…you know you have good scores; College Confidential doesn’t need to tell you that.

I don’t know if you’re trying to insult the minority group or not, but you’re right.

Good one…too bad I ain’t laughing brah.

That’s a pretty low ACT. But your not a fail. Latino’s don’t really have a high academic rep.

Get a book and practice. It helps. I went from a 24 to a 30… From one Latino to another! Good luck on your senior year and message me if you need help/advice/questions!

I am also Hispanic like you and have come across my fair share of stereotyping. First and foremost, like others have stated before me, do not think of yourself as being a failure. The fact that you are pursuing your education puts you at a level far above the average Latino, many of whom do not even care about attending grade school, much less going to college - I’m going to add that I think their parents are at fault, or the culture at large really. Your scores are pretty impressive, though their is always room for improvement. After reading some good motivational books - you can PM me if you’re interested in some - I can tell you that the key to success is to have a positive outlook in life. If you consider yourself a failure, you will be a failure, regardless of your race. Do not give up; always look to improve yourself.

tl;dr: You aren’t a failure, and your current scores are well above average. If you truly wish to succeed, keep a positive outlook and commit yourself to improvement and reaching your goals.

Please tell me the OP is a ■■■■■… how else can you be so desperate for compliments. You f**ked up on the ACT, great. Give it a couple years from now and you’ll realize how stupid you sound right now.

I’m slowly getting tired of people trying to feel good about themselves by posting great stats online and hoping others tell them how smart they are. Grow up and stop relying on these cheap compliments to obtain a sense of accomplishment.

The ACT can be easily “studied to the test,” and seeing as how you have the “harder” aspects of schooling down, you’ll inevitably get better at the ACT.

And I’m speaking from experience… I had a chances thread once, pretty similar to this, and looking back I realize how conceited and plain stupid I came off as. Break the CC trend and stop coming here solely for compliments and encouragement. You need to learn how to supply that on your own.

NO, you are not a ‘fail’! I’m hispanic too! It’s tough meeting smart hispanics. I actually haven’t come across any in my high school career. So be proud of what you accomplish and push yourself!!! I’m Salvadoran and have a ~2300 SAT, 2 800 SAT II’s, and a 4.0 UW. I’m still not satisfied, haha.

Believe it or not, you are actually an upper-percentile Latino.

Psychologically speaking (from personal experience, I haven’t done AP Psych, correct me if I’m wrong), and in theory, there is always someone at a lower level than you are, who feels the same. It’s similar to the concept of being rich or poor; it’s a state of mind.

I’m also Hispanic, but have a 3.6 UW/3.7 W and 1600 SAT (not necessarily something I’m proud of; I’m working this summer on raising it as well as improving my reading comprehension). Aside from a few ec’s, the only real thing I feel proud of is having only passed one AP test (Calculus BC - 4 with 5 on the subscore) and being in the top 5% of my class.

I feel with the way that I look at my statistics with how you were starting the thread (feeling like an underachieving individual), but sincerely, I don’t appreciate the Hispanic stereotype. Anyone can do anything, dude. My philosophy is that the most valuable part of a person during the college admissions isn’t really their academic resume, but rather, who they are as a person; it’s the inside that counts, you know?

^ This. 10char

Ok I definitely read this as a somewhat racist comment about Latinos and assumed that the guy felt he was a fail Latino for doing too well… Did no one else think that?

^ lolno

I thought that too. In AP world, I recall an Asian classmate being called fail for failing a test. I was called a fail Latino for getting a 96. Go figure.
