Hi guys, my name is Amberlanya. I wanted to know what range of colleges I could shoot for. Im currently a junior and am taking mostly AP classes. I have a 4.488 weighted GPA and 4.0 unweighted.
Clubs/activities in school:
- Varsity tennis team
-President of Hispanic Outreach Association
-Communications executive officer of Community Service Honor Society
-Officer of Environmental Club
-Officer of Helping Hands
-Member of student government
-Member of Science Olympiad
Honor Societies:
- Spanish Honor Society
-National English Honor Society
-National Honor Society
Received a national award: Emperor Science Award in which I worked with a mentor on a research project
- so far have done three straight years of the volunteen (volunteering in hospitals) program over the summer
- Worked as a camp counselor over the summer
-worked as a tutor in a tutoring center
- Was part of a fundraising effort to raise money for blind children in India
Still waiting for SAT score…but hope to end with above 1500.
If your SAT comes back above 1500+, any school would be fair game. If you are considering applying to some reach schools at Ivy level, you will need SAT II subject tests.
Once your scores are release, look at making a list of a few reach schools, a few safeties, and the rest in between.
Not sure what your intended major is, but one of the ways to start researching is googling which schools are strong for that field of interest.
Thank you so much! Also I forgot to mention, I have taken the SAT Biology subject test and scored a 790. So if I take two more subject tests and score decently, and get 1500+ on the SAT, do you think I’d have a chance at Ivy League?

What is your intended major/course of study?
As mentioned above, apply to safety schools – UGA would be one for you, and it has a good honors program (making a large school a little bit smaller).
I am looking towards biological sciences, and yes I am definitely considering UGA honors. Would you say I have a relatively high chance of making it into UGA honors?
Are you Latina? If so, added to your stats and EC’s you can shoot for the moon. UGA should be a match for you. There’s also Emory. If you don’t need financial aid.that could be an extra plus for you. Practice for the SATs and you should be in good shape/

Many kids with high stats and a good range of activity start to think about their chances at a tippy top. You’ll want to remember these are holistic, it’s not just the stats and some range of activities, including some titles. These are like the bones, a good start. But in your app and supps, you’ll need to flesh things out. And that means presenting the sorts of qualities and energies these colleges want to see. Attributes.
Each tippy top is slightly different. You want to learn what makes any a fit for you. What each TT offers and expects, the differences, what makes them the right environment and fit for you. Then, what they want and expect from applicants. Best source is what they write and show in their own web pages. Insome cases, the sorts of kids they brag about. Then you get an idea of how to self-match…and how to present yourself.
So think about what you can show, not just the bones. Show, not just tell. And it’s not just are you qualified, it’s that the competition is so fierce, many kids with top stats, hs activities, and volunteering. In the past year or so, we’ve started calling high performance kids “average excellent.” How do you think you’ll standout, in the holistic process? That’s not odd, unusual, more hours than someone else. Think about it.

You need to get comfortable with the process, learn what matters, and see if it shows in you/your record, then do a bang up job on your app and supps. TTs have single digit admit rates. Most kids who make it past first cut have top gpa, scores, ECs, some titles, and more. And the attributes or traits these colleges want in their communities.
We don’t know, from your thread, what you’ve actually done, your impact, who you are. Just the resume. It takes more than that. Holistic and fiercely competitive.
It’s not to ask, am I average, do I stand out? They don’t make a pile and then choose at random. Do you have some idea what they look for?
I have somewhat of an idea, I just don’t know what to add or what else to do. I’m not sure exactly what they will ask for.
I feel like a tiny fish in a vast ocean and don’t know if I’m heading in the right direction, if you know what I mean.
