Am I at an advantage?

Am I at an advantage if I am the only student applying to Stanford (and the only one who has applied in many years) and am a strong applicant?

I meant to write the only student applying to Stanford FROM MY SCHOOL.

not really, sorry

as an applicant in a similar situation, i was actually told the opposite-- that being from a school stanford doesn’t know well may hinder, not help, your chance of admission.
i got in, though, so who knows?

Unless you’re black, then no.

My understanding is that as long as you meet the requirements that Stanford is looking for then it doesn’t make a difference if your school is well known to them or not. As a matter of fact thats why, in some instances, kids from obsure areas in the country, like Alaska actually, have a better chance of getting in. Their geographical location is a hook. Also, some small schools don’t offer AP’s and that can’t be taken against the students either. So I highly doubt it would be taken against you. However, I’m not sure it would necessarily be a perk, especially since your from Maryland.
