Am I being impatient?

Hello! I interviewed with a company for an internship that I desire quite a bit. I interviewed with them on November 14 (2 weeks ago).

I thought the interview went extremely well…I thought. But now, since it’s taking them a while to get back, I’ve begun to reconsider how well it really went.

Before they even scheduled me for an interview, I had to do these assessments. In the interview, the corporate recruiter seemed to imply that my assessment results were what they wanted and she implied that I have basically already been chosen for an internship. I am an accounting major and wanted an accounting internship. But she said there were “many candidates” for that department and instead pitched all their other departments to me. I am fine with this.

She seemed impressed with the research on the company I had done beforehand and appeared to like all my answers to her questions. She also asked a lot about my schedule and liked how I have my schedule set up for next spring. She talked as if I was already working there. Of course I immediately was skeptical and assumed this was just how HR people do things haha.

The problem…I don’t know how long it’s supposed to take for them to get back to me. And I can’t remember what she said to me about what the next steps are

She asked me when my semester was over and said that I would probably start December 15 because she wants most interns to start around the same day. But I have not been contacted back. She didn’t provide her email address (which really worries me). She did say she has other people to interview (which worries me as well) and that she is also hiring people for a new office they opened which I assume was to let me know she is busy. But it’s been 2 weeks…

I emailed the lady who initially set me up for the assessments and stuff who also works in HR yesterday after not hearing back from them all of last week. How long should I wait? I want to know if I need to give up and look for other jobs. Should I call after another week?

You should ABSOLUTELY be looking for other jobs, without any question. Don’t stop looking until you have accepted a firm offer (i.e. offer in writing). You may be selected, or you may not be. If it is an internship that requires no relocation, then I’d give it until the middle of next week before really worrying; if it requires relocation, then you’d be right to worry.

One thing you could do early next week, if you hear nothing, is try to derive the recruiter’s email address - if you have anybody’s email, you can probably figure out what somebody else’s email address is.

Did you send thank you notes or emails to folks at this company? If not, I would do that immediately.

Call to ask for your recruiters email address. Just say that you want to send him/her a thank you for meeting with you and need email address.
