I’m not sure if this is the right place to talk about this, but this is probably the closest forum for this topic.
I enjoy traveling and learning about different cultures, and I was considering a career in diplomacy or international business.
I understand that it is incredibly difficult to become a diplomat. Should I expect my dreams to be crushed? I’m only a high school student, but I’ve been doing extensive research on college majors and careers. Does my gender (female) and ethnicity (Asian American) affect my possibilities of becoming a diplomat for America? (I’m fluent in English and Cantonese, and this is my third year learning Spanish. I plan to study Mandarin and Japanese during this summer.)
As for international business, I hope to work in a position under a large corporation that requires me to fly to different areas to settle issues.
Am I being too ambitious? If possible, I will double major in international business and international relations for college. (Ideally, this would open two paths for my future–politics and business.)
I’m feeling very confused and anxious right now, as my dreams for the future seem impossible and idealistic.

Your race and gender should not be the deciding factors in your career.

as long as you are a U.S. citizen the other stuff shouldn’t matter for the diplomat stuff. That said, as you mentioned, it is quite the difficult field to get into.
