Am I challenging myself too much?

This was my first semester in college (I graduated high school a semester early), and I took 12 hours (FREN 101, BIO 204/203(lab), WRIT 101, and a one hour Intro to University course) because I was warned to take the minimum number of hours as a first-semester freshman. Now, despite having a healthy social life (good group of friends, go out a few times a week) and being the secretary of a club on campus, I am bored because of how little I have to do in terms of actually being productive. It feels like when all of my friends are studying or working on assignments, I have nothing to do except twiddle my thumbs. Despite this, I have an A (or, in the case of BIO 204, an A-) in all of these courses.

Therefore, next semester my schedule looks like this:
ENGL 321 (Holocaust Lit) 3.0 hours
BIOL 206H (Honors Zoology) 4.0 hours
CHEM 104 (Intro to Chem) 3.0 hours
HMXP 102H (Honors Human Experience… it’s a University “Touchstone” requirement, not really sure how to describe this course.) 3.0 hours
EDUC 101 (Self-explanatory) 1.0 hours
FREN 102 (Self-explanatory) 4.0 hours
BIOL 200 (Freshman symposium in Biology) 0.0 hours (required)

I have been told by some people that this schedule is too ambitious. Could I get some opinions from you kind folks? I will still be SEAC secretary, and may be tutoring on campus next year as well (although that is still up in the air).

I am also considering adding a French major and becoming a Biology/French double major. My future plans are to enter into secondary education (I am pursuing my Master’s in Teaching in my fifth year as a part of a program my university sponsors). Any thoughts on this?

It’s a heavy load but it you want to graduate in four years, you need to play a little catch up. Try it, but you might if to drop a science if things get too tough. GL

The only problem with that is I absolutely can NOT drop a science course, or I risk losing a scholarship. I have to have a certain amount of STEM credits my freshman year in order to be eligible for an Enhancement scholarship, which is a pretty big deal. I’m taking a math and acting course during Maymester as well. (Math for the STEM credit, and Acting as an elective because I had to have 6 hours for Financial Aid to pay for Maymester and I didn’t want to risk my math grade by adding another difficult course.)

So… your issue is you are bored? Wouldn’t that mean you should just read some books (educational or otherwise) play some video games, or involve yourself more with the campus? You know be a kid? You’re no way an adult just because you’re in college, not even close.

Taking it as challenge is easy. But implementing it is important. I know, it is difficult. Out of 100 people , 30 people will follow it.

Palier - Yes, but I do all of those things already… Like I said, my social life is not lacking in any realm, it is right where I like it. I’m certainly not planning on giving up my youth just for an extra class or two!

I should probably also mention that ENGL 321 is a short-term study abroad trip. We will have 6 regular class meetings during the semester to discuss readings, but most of the contact hours will occur during Winter break in Europe.

I’m not sure how you have so much free time but have a social life and full load.

Well your first 12 credits does seem pretty simple.

Maybe go for only 14?

i know quite a few students who feel underchallenged taking an average load per semester. you’re fine.
