Hey, y’all! I was wondering if I’m competitive at two of my top schools, Boston College and the University of Virginia. I also am applying to MIT but that’s a pipe dream for everyone, right?
Gender: Male
Ethnicity: White
School Type: Public
State: Wyoming
Major: Finance or another business major
Rank: top 34/650 (only 34 4.0’s in my HS class and I am one of them, class ranks don’t come out until October of my Senior year)
GPA: UW - 4.0 (out of 4) - school doesn’t weight
SAT: didn’t take yet
ACT: 32 (35E, 34S, 30R, 28M) one sitting - retaking in April as a state mandate
SAT Subject: Taking Math 2 and probably Bio in May
Junior Class Schedule: Accelerated Pre-Calc, Accelerated Physics, College US History, English, Business Management, German 3, and internship
Senior Class Schedule (anticipated): AP Calc BC, AP Macroeconomics, AP German, Business Management 2, College English, Computer Science/Software Engineering, and internship
Extracurriculars:
DECA (my most extensive EC) - President of chapter, 2 1st and 1 4th at state last year, 1st at a regional conference this year, 6th at Internationals last year, experience coordinating events and promotional campaigns through DECA. I could talk about my involvement in DECA for hours.
WAC (fancy acronym for quiz bowl) - 1st at a tourney in December, 2nd at a tourney this month, and currently 5th in All-Star voting statewide.
FCA - student leader; I design lesson plans for our meetings, help other students with spiritual guidance and the like.
Youth group - member since 2011, volunteer and leader since 2012. Ran fundraisers, set up games and activities for the church, etc. This one is pretty cookie cutter.
Internship with business teacher
Will only taking 3 AP’s hurt? Our HS just usually has college-credit courses instead of APUSH, APWH, AP Gov, etc. And the AP’s they do offer are typically reserved for seniors. Am I competitive?
