Am I cooked for dropping a senior year research elective?

Incoming T15 college freshman here and I’m lowkey stressed.

I recently dropped my high school’s optional senior research capstone project because the original research plan became unworkable . The project was supposed to take place during the third trimester of my senior year (since mid-March). The class was listed on my common app’s senior year coursework section, so I’m planning to update the college I’ve committed to about it.

The senior project itself was optional, not required for graduation. However it does check “the most rigorous course load” box.

Am I overthinking this or am I actually cooked :skull:

Thank you!!

I would assume you are overthinking but inform your college and then you’ll know. Only they can guide you.

I would have suggested contacting the college you are enrolled at PRIOR to dropping the class. But let them know now. Hopefully it will be fine, but only the college can tell you for sure.

Does it still matter if it did not appear on my trimester 1 and 2 transcripts? Thank you.

Dont think that matters – your final transcript is typically compared to the list of scheduled classes. Hopefully it is fine, but once again only the college can answer with 100% certainty. I would let them know in writing (so you have documentation.)

I see. By list of scheduled classes, do you mean the classes listed in the “current or most recent year courses” section of my common app? Thanks!

You list your scheduled classes for the upcoming year.

There is nothing I can add. Contact the college and hopefully all will be fine.

I’m not completely following if what you’re dropping would appear on a formal transcript or not. If it’s just something you would have been doing as part of a class, but won’t show up on any school report, you don’t need to do anything about it. This might be a case where checking in with your high school counselor would help first.

Hi! I’ve confirmed that it will not appear on my final transcript. However I did list it in the “Current or Most Recent Year Courses” part of my common app as a standalone thing scheduled to take place during trimester 3. Nowhere else in my applications (additional info, updates, essays, etc.) was it mentioned.

Well that was your issue. If it will never be on your transcript, you shouldn’t have listed it to begin with. You’d have the same issue if you completed the class.

Reach out to the school and make them aware of your error.

Tell the college. Don’t worry too much. Talk to an admissions person, not a student answering the phone, or email your representative. Not a bad idea to check with the guidance counselor first. You are not overthinking because it is necessary to be honest, but I would not worry too much about being rescinded or anything like that.

Ohh sorry! Just for clarification, it will not be on my transcript because I dropped it, not because it will never be on my transcript regardless : )

Sounds good, thanks!

In the end, the answer won’t change. Tell the school. They will tell you.

Likely no issue but either way find out now.
