Am I crazy for thinking this is effed up?

So I’m doing a post graduate year at a boarding school and I got my course placements the other day. They are making me retake Calc AB and not letting me take AP Physics C because apparently I suck at Calculus. My first trimester Calc grade was a C because I missed 13 classes because I had ankle surgery and had to visit schools but second and third trimester grades were both As. Also my physic teacher recommended me for AP physics C. I got my AP score for Calc Last night: 5. My mom called this morning and they were like maybe and now they are setting up a conference that is happening in a half an hour. They are basically screwing me over if I want to major in math. What are colleges are going to say? She did an extra year of high school and all she did was repeat Calc AB? That is going to be suspicious. Also if I don’t major in math my other option for a major would be Photography. They didn’t even attempt to fit digital photography or 2d design into my schedule. They gave me a random elective that I think is a freshman course called drawing and composition. They took both of those courses off my course registration. They at least left everything else as if it was pending. But what the hell? This PG year was for me to improve my photography and my math and I’m not in any classes that will help me. They didn’t give me a single class I want.

Am I crazy for thinking this is effed up?

Who isnt letting you, your guidance counsellor?
See if the conference does anything, if not, call the school board, (or whoever is in charge)

but, no you’re not crazy. they shouldnt stop you from taking a course if you have the prerequisite.

omg, im so SICK of these messed up guidance counsellors. what part of GUIDANCE do they not understand? all they do is mess up our plans.

my teachers at my current school and my guidance counselor say i should be taking the courses but my new schools math department science department and guidance counselor disagree. Whats the purpose of having my current teachers fill out course recommendations if you are going to defy them? It’s like what are you trying to accomplish here?

I hope this conference call helps. It better help.

It depends on the schools. A 5 on the AB exam does not necessarily mean you have mastered the material (although the other trimester grades seem to imply you have). Did you take a placement exam? My brother took Algebra I in 8th grade with straight As, but he will be retaking it at boarding school despite the recommendation of his teachers because it turns out that his 8th grade class was not nearly in as much depth as the BS deems necessary.

Chances are you shouldn’t be repeating AB Calc, but one can’t say with 100% certainty that the new school is wrong.

lol why are you taking another year of high school??

You are crazy for taking another year of high school, but not for thinking you’re getting shafted.

My Junior year grades weren’t great so my college adviser recommended it. The conference call went smoothly. Apparently they didn’t see my second and third trimester grades and thought I like failed at calculus? The academic dean still has to talk to the math department but BC seems to be in my favor. AP physics C is a bit iffy but it should happen. My current physic teacher just doesn’t know how to fill out a course recommendation. I don’t think she did it on purpose but she made it seem like I cut class all the time and don’t do my work. (She said I had 10 absences and didn’t explain it even though she knew why and probably shouldn’t have mentioned it in the first place because I got all As) Apparently the photography was a scheduling issue but if I get into Physics C, Calc BC, and if they create a second multivarable calc class which I would take after BC I will be able to take photography.

So I’m no longer completely screwed. That’s nice.
