If someone has a 3.8 gpa from high school are they exempted from taking the college placement test in NJ?
You have to look at a particular college’s requirements. Many of them are linked to your score on the SAT or ACT or, at least in NY, on the Regents exam.
Some schools want everyone to take the placement test. You’ll have to check with your school.
@bjkmom is correct. My D’s SUNY school made everyone take the English placement test but did math placement based on SAT score (that was 10 years, they might also use the ACT now). My S17’s SUNY makes everyone take one semester of English and math, no placement testing. My local CC did placement based on SAT scores and/or Regents scores. Bottom line, check with each school you are interested in. The info should be on the website.
