am I going to be banned from the SAT?

I’m a junior girl signed up for the chem, literature and us history subject tests for today. During the US history subject, I went back to answer some literature questions, and the proctor caught me and is sending a letter. I know my scores will all be nullified, including my chem which I didn’t touch, but am I not going to be allowed to take the SAT now in the future? what happens now? I’m really scared and feel really stupid for doing something I shouldn’t have, I was planning on taking my normal SAT in june and I don’t know if I’ll get into college now. anyone have past experience with something like this, and what steps should I take? should I just wait until they call?

I don’t know if that would happen or not - I suspect not - but remember that even if it does, you can still take the ACT. You’d have difficulty with colleges that require SAT IIs, but there are many - most, probably - colleges that you would be able to get into if you did well on the ACT. You might want to schedule one now just in case.

You can’t be held responsible in anyway. If caught cheating in any way (other than having someone take the test for you, which is considered fraud) your test(s) are thrown out. Colleges are not notified, and you will not be banned. This happens to a lot of people and is very common.

This isn’t a game.

In all seriousness… you definitely wont be ‘banned’ from the SAT, however your scores are more likely to be tossed

Scores will be tossed. There will be no ban (yet). I hope you learned a lesson.

Nothing will happen to you, just your scores are going to be cancelled and the schools that you intend to apply will never know about it because it will show that you didn’t show up at the testing center.

Anyway, just be careful with your actions because is a Saturday morning waste to do such a silly movement

I am pretty sure the Procter just wanted to give you a warning.
He probably won’t even go through the trouble of sending a letter.
Furthermore even if he does, which I highly doubt, you won’t get into
any trouble for it and won’t get banned from taking the SAT or SAT subject
tests. Also your scores will NOT be cancelled. You simply took a peak at another
section, and did not cheat in an alarming manner.

However, I hope that you don’t do this again.

Best of luck,
Cheers

“Took a peek”?? OP answered questions from another section, which is explicitly forbidden. I don’t think it’s very helpful to give out empty “you didn’t cheat”-type encouragement.

You won’t be banned. Your scores will get cancelled. Your proctor should be fired
