Thanks very much hb730!! =)

I’ll have to make sure about that GPA thing, because the guidance counselor in my school told me that O-level grades make for a weighted GPA like that. I’ll check again though.

That ten you gave me is actually a good list, because Wisconsin, Berkeley, and UCLA, for example, were schools I actually -did- want to go to more. I’ve heard Wisconsin has an amazing biology program. If I were to narrow it down to, say, 8, would this be a good list?

Wisconsin
U Wash
Wash U St. Louis
UCLA
Berkeley
Johns Hopkins
UCSD
Harvard (Yes, I know I won’t get in but I’m being pushed to apply anyway)

If I take the SAT again, and get 2100+, will that really increase my chances for the upper-tier schools? Yeah, I double-checked and I’m not an international student, so I can still get financial aid.

Thanks about the subject tests! Do high scores in those increase your chances a lot? Well honestly in my school there aren’t very many extracurricular programs. All of them are student-made and student-run, the administration doesn’t fund anything. The presidents of each society schedules meeting and events at very strange times, sometimes even when I have a class, so of course I’d rather attend the class than attend the extracurricular. How much do extracurriculars matter anyway? Can I make up for that with, say, a good essay?

I was about to do an internship at a lab, but that never happened. Long story. I was also about to do one at a hospital, but… well I don’t even know.

Plus, don’t you have the chance to pick your major when you’re already in? Or do they consider the choices you will make when you’re still applying? Because I’m not even 100% sure about Genetics or medicine. Does it matter that I’m a bit broad-based?

Thanks again, you’ve been a great help so far.
