Am I good enough for Umich- Ann Arbor?

@ClarinetDad16 I was definitely offered that exact scholarship. They waived the $75 application fee and I registered on to the personalized U-M website where they later received confirmation that I had read through the packet and then sent me a free t-shirt.

@ClarinetDad16

“And not given to deferred rather to accepted students.”
By this do you mean that since I got deferred, if I get accepted I won’t receive it anymore? My impression was that if you get admitted either way you receive it

Sam…if you get accepted, you will get your scholarship. Absolutely certain of this. U of M has excellent funding for lower income students.

@MaryGJ okay good that’s what I thought…sorry about all these questions lol but in my letter of interest to them, should I mention the scholarship? I don’t want to sound redundant because they already know about it but I want them to know how grateful id be if I was given the opportunity to attend with this scholarship.

I see no where a deferred (and admitted later) student to be ineligible to the Hail Scholarship, on that news article or elsewhere.

Back in my day, a 26 ACT would get your application in the door (i.e., your application won’t be filtered out solely by the number). I don’t know about now, but I’m pretty sure the threshold gets higher each year.

You would think that as long as your GPA is 3.8+ that you’re fine. However, merely having a C or D on your transcript will raise flags, regardless of GPA. You should tell them why, and you better have a good reason.

I am currently about to begin my last semester at umich, so I went through the admissions process four years ago. I have not kept myself up to date on the admissions process, which very well could have changed since then.

Indeed, there were drastic changes in admission within the last 4 years.

I live in Michigan, and the consensus around here is that a ACT score of 31 is needed to even be competitive. I don’t know if this is regional or anything, but I do know that a 26 won’t be good on your application without any major hooks.

I agree with umcoe16 that you have to give a reason for any C or D on your transcript. Without a valid explanation, that low of a grade will certainly raise some eyebrows in the admissions office.

The rest of these people are right, of course a lower GPA and ACT score will make it more difficult to get in. However, if you wrote strong essays and have great ECs they may see something in you that they don’t think they see in anyone else. Don’t lose hope! It’s not over until it’s over!

Also, any upward trend in grade you can show through your mid-year report will be great for you!
