I’m very passionate about languages and made sure to note that in my app. In fact I dedicated a whole essay to talking about my experience in language.

I’m multilingual and can fluently speak…
-Arabic
-Chaldean
-English
-Spanish

I’m currently learning Korean (1 year)

I was a Student Ambassador Translator in elementary, junior high, and high school for English Language Learning students and study abroad students. Mostly translated Arabic and Chaldean to English and vice versa

Sorry if this was so long but I wanted to make sure I got everything because PLOT TWIST: I got deferred early action:(
Just wanted to know if I should still have hope of getting in later in March. Please be kind! I know I don’t compare to other high achieving students>.< lol thank you!!

Oh I forgot, I was also offered the Hail Scholarship for full tuition. Michigan is my first choice school

I think ACT 26 is likely too low for UMich considering your GPA too. Even for students from under-privilege schools, I think the threshold would be near 28. The mid 50 last year was 30-34.

@sam2443 What’s your GPA? I can’t see it anywhere. Also you should consider retaking the ACT provided that’s still an option… With a 26 you’d be very fortunate to be admitted RD. What’s your background like? Are you a URM, do you have legacy, and are you a first-generation college student? Hard to have a full analysis without that data

Also I don’t think Neuroscience is an available minor at UMich…

If you were already offered a Hail scholarship, you might as well apply

@ThaiGiraffe - If I am not mistaken, the OP has already applied and got deferred to the Regular Decision Round. Do not lose hope @Sam2443, your experiences seem to distinguish you. I would send a letter of continued interest to your regional admissions counsellor.

@yikesyikesyikes sorrry, you’re right. I didn’t see the last paragraph ^-^

I’m calculating around a 3.87 assuming you can pull up the D+ to a C- ( very approximate based on your comment that you have all A grades except for one other C. Given that you are low income (selected for HAIL) I’d say there is some decent chance that even with the 26 you might get in instate.

@hailbate lol sorry I forgot to mention my gpa, it’s 3.84 UW. (Very close, nice @maya25) And to answer your questions, yes I’m a first generation college student, no I don’t have the legacy, and I guess you could say I’m URM? I don’t really know how to describe my background but Is there anything else you’d like to know?

I’m sorry my 3.84 GPA is Weighted ^^^

@Sam2443 What is it UW? That is going to be way more important. If you are URM and 1st generation your odds look better, but honestly I’m not sure if the 26 ACT is enough to get you over the hump. Is there any way to still take the ACT and turn in your scores or is it too late at his point?

URM doesn’t matter for Michigan. Awesome on the scholarship offer through, try to take the Feb ACT and bump op your score a few points.

I could take it one more time but my counselor told me that I don’t need to because apparently the way they offered me the scholarship was through my act score along with the other info they needed to see if I qualified for it.

In the meantime should I send a letter of intent to show them that I’m interested?

How did they offer you the scholarship?

@ClarinetDad16 after I sent them my act score, I received the offer after a couple of weeks. It’s a new scholarship designed to attract overachieving students from underrepresented schools to apply to u of m. I wish I knew more about it but this is the first year that they’re doing it and no one knows how they’re approaching this.

@Sam2443 did you apply Common App?

@Sam2443 Even if UMich received your info through ACT, it does not mean your current score is good enough. First, if it is not an official score report, ACT (or CB) would only provide regional and score range info instead of your real score. For instance, they may obtain a list of score 25 or above (or whichever option ACT offers). Many students would get a better score by the time of application deadline too. Your school GC probably has very little experience with UMich (that is why UMich picked your school) and obviously no experience with the Hail Scholarship program like anyone else.

@ClarinetDad16 yes I applied through common app

It is not through common app.

And not given to deferred rather to accepted students.
