Am i in or out?

I would like to know my chances at getting into Yale or any other Ivy since Yale is one of the toughest schools to get into in America. Here is my high school bio. My school is one of the top five schools in the state of ohio. I am a junior in high school.

Asian American

GPA: 4.058
Class Rank: 1 out of 234
A.P. classes this year: A.P. Chem, A.P. European History, and A.P. Drawing
E.C.: Academic Challenge, Chess club, Track, science Olympiad, NHS, Ohio Math League, and possibly later Jets Team if accepted
Volunteer at hospital and trying to shoot for 150 hours by end of year
leader of religious group
Have three class awards for highest grade in class
SAT: Have not taken it yet. Would like to know in what range for the new SAT
SAT II: Same for SAT
PSAT: 194 without really knowing any vocab
Been to states for science olympiad and probably going a second time.

What is your take on these things and do you think I have a chance in getting in or should i do more. I will be taking the a.p. exams in may and possibly the sat II chemistry also . What would I also on these SAT and SAT II tests. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

The best place for this is the Chances forum.

That being said, you’re obviously on the right track, but no one can tell you whether or not you’ll get in. Even if people here tell you you’re a ‘shoe-in’, that’s absolutely no guarantee because Ivy League admissions (especially at Yale) are extremely competitive.

Best of luck to you.

If you ARE from Cleveland:

And you attend Shaker or Hathaway Brown - you’re in

And you DON’T attend Shaker or Hathaway Brown - you’re out

thanks for the input. the problem is some people have told me you can get in on sole academics with some e.c.'s whereas others you don’t need to be valedictorian and should do some more things. that is the trouble i have had. i always feel i could be doing more, but i want to keep my grades up, practice my religion, and just do something other than just academics like watching my horrible browns or watching Lebron James.

There’s no magic formula for getting into Yale. Do the best you can. Try to enjoy high school. In the end, you’ll end up happy somewhere.

Go to Kent or CSU, that way when LeBron takes us to the promised land, you won’t be stuck in New Haven while we party like it 1999!

yeah ive known people that got rejected from local schools like neoucom in ohio and then they got accepted into harvard. i was curious because that ivy calculator that collegeboard has gave me an 8 out of 9, with 9 being the best. i was wondering if there was any truth to that. Jeov, youre right that James will take us to the promiseland, barring any injuries. this is cleveland you know. We have such bad luck.

I’ve heard Lebron is an @$$hole in person - some of my friends met him

As for the SAT I, I’m only familiar with the former exam, but I would think that you should shoot for at least a 700 or above on each section of the test. Same for the SAT IIs. It seems like an average of 700 or above for all three tests is needed.

Of all of the activities that you mentioned, track stands out in my mind as the one activity that might tip the balance in your favor. You should do whatever you can do this track season to go as far as you can go. Work hard over the winter to be in shape to win Districts, Regionals, States, etc. Email the Track Coach after you have a couple of good marks to let him know that you are interested in Yale, and that you are dedicated to excelling in your event. The Track Coaches’ contact information is located at http://yalebulldogs.collegesports.com/sports/w-track/yale-w-track-body.html</a> .

As for the religion group, continue your involvement, and seek to achieve a leadership position in the larger Church Body. Could you serve as a “deacon” or “youth leader” in your Church? Having a leadership position in an area of interest to you seems crucial.

May you be blessed in your future endeavors!
