Hi everyone. I recently received my admissions decisions and am in the process of selecting schools.
Accepted
Fordham
NYU
University of Hawaii
Waitlisted
Vassar
I received a scholarship at UH (my home state university) that would entitle me to free tuition, a $4,000 yearly stipend, and money to travel abroad. Although I was accepted to my dream school, NYU, the medium scholarship they awarded me does not begin to cover the cost of attending, as well as room, and board and would put my family under financial stress. The same situation with Fordham as well. I’m not counting on getting off Vassar’s waitlist.
Currently, I am planning to attend UH this coming year but would it be worth it to try to transfer to NYU my junior year? Is that even possible?
Take the wonderful offer in Hawaii. Life will be easier and cheaper when you already know the state and school, o an clothes and whatever else you need and could save money you would have spent on plane tickets. Beyond that, you can expect to earn a good education. It is only speculative that you get a better education at NYU. People seem to confuse what students contribute to their own educations versus what you learn elsewhere. You mind state with you!
Instead of transferring I’d consider doing a study abroad (or at a college on the mainland) program for a semester or a year. That will give you a very different experience while still keeping your scholarship.
