Hi, I’m going to be a senior in the fall and I’m wondering if I have been making (or thinking about) the right choices so far.
Some quick info about me:
Female, Asian, Lives in Virginia
GPA - 4.19
AP Classes I took so far - World History (3) , US History, Calculus AB, Psychology, English Language; (last 4 i havent recieved scores yet)
Planning to take next year - AP Calculus BC, AP Spanish, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP English Literature, US Government, Newspaper, and Orchestra
Extracurricular Activities: National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (math honor society), Future Educators of America
I get volunteer hours through NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, as well as through my local library in the summer. As of right now, I have about 90 hours of volunteering over the years.
I’m thinking about majoring in pharmacology or psychopharmacology.
I’m considering applying to : University of Virginia, Georgetown University, George Washington Univeristy, Yale, Wingate University
Wingate offered me a free application which I also do not have to write an essay, and be notified whether I am accepted or not in 2 weeks.
I haven’t actually got any scholarships yet, which terrifies me. I’m uncertain on what I should do about that.
What else should I do to “stand out” and basically do better? Am i doing anything wrong?
Thank you!!
I don’t think you are doing anything wrong, but scholarships don’t just come running to you. You have to specifically go out and search for them. This means applying to the ones available to your school, being on the lookout for others as part of any organizations you are part of, and look at colleges where you may qualify for merit. You have to check the requirements for some of those because several may require you to interview or have several rounds. My advice to you is if you are specifically looking for scholarships, look on the FA forum’s pinned threads and look out for automatic scholarships based on stats or ones you are pretty certain about attaining.
Also would you be okay with attending WIngate Univesity if accepted? If not you need at least one safety school, one that you are almost certain of being accepted, can afford, and would be happy to attend if you didn’t get into your other schools. Virginia has a great public school system so there’s no excuse for not having one. This may just be me but personally I am skeptical of universities that offer free applications and promise to get back to you soon, with no essay involved. I received lots of those back in the day (some even continued to email me after I matriculated to another school) and I sometimes have to question the quality of those institutions. Nevertheless, if you have visited and it has what you want, it could be a good fit for you
