that sums most of it up

so i applied for the top 15 or such : all reject, except waitlist at caltech, williams and wustl, and accepted at cornell but 0 fin aid
guess ill be going to bremen, germany

not bragging or anything…just want to know where i went wrong

the nerdiness…no offense
theres WAAAAY too many like you

It’s much harder for internationals to be accepted to top colleges than it is for US citizens. It’s also extremely hard for internationals to get financial aid. The financial aid costs are sky high and since the colleges are in the US, they give first dibs to UC citizens.

Also, your verbal is low for the caliber of university that you applied to. While English is your second language, and your score shows impressive facility with English, you’re still competing against US citizens with 800 scores. The colleges don’t give you a break because English is your second language.

honestly, you did not deserve all those rejection letters. im stumped. your stats are unbelievable. i never knew that selectivity for internationals intensified by 1000000000000x.

ouch those ecs are amazing tho

At many schools international students get a break because they add to the “diversity” of the campus.

My little brother is a smart kid but he was not a stellar student. His B+ average, sprinkled with some C’s, landed him a spot in UPenn’s Class of 2010 (Arts & Sciences). He also had only superficial ECs. I guess his coming from an international school in Brazil helped.

My best friend who’s now a senior at Cornell’s Arts & Sciences had a 1000 on her SATs and low-level math and science courses in high school. She also studied at our high school in Brazil.

I’m sorry it didn’t work that way for you, Negru. You’ll do great wherever you go.

oh ya, and even Bremen rejected me eventually ^^ how weird is that…

anyway, I’m trying again this year. But i learned my lesson and I’m adding some safeties now. I really wasn’t aware of how competitive admissions are…I thought Brown was my safety, because it ranked “only” 15 or so…now I’m doing ED to Brown.

Why didn’t you go to Cornell?
If it is too expensive, I don’t know how you can afford Brown, if you are accepted this time.

…lol. no such thing as safety ivy league schools

Cornell doesn’t give need based aid to all admitted intls, but Brown does.

it’s probably because you are a gypsy

AHAHAHA… I sense we have a Borat on this forum

The International University of Bremen rejected you???
I have no shot… you have ruined all my dreams…

Honestly I have no idea why you didn’t get into at least one school… it just doesn’t make sense… who is getting these acceptance letters…

WHOOAAAAA…

holy crap that’s a shame.

I agree…that’s a shame.

It’s not exactly like he’s from China or Singapore…he’s from Romania, for god’s sake! And he’s got international recognition!!! I’m totally confuzzled…

me too

lol he called you a gypsy

haha, I wish I were one when applying…that would’ve been more hook than saving earth from an alien invasion.
