<p>I’m African American-parents from Somalia but I was born in the U.S,
and i’m planning on spending my whole junior year in China. </p>
<p>Given that you’re only a freshman, it’s really hard to answer a question like that. If you maintain your grades, do well on standardized testing, complete amazing extracurriculars and form good relationships with teachers (for recommendations), then there is no reason why you shouldn’t be competitive at those schools. For HYPSM schools, what you do outside the classroom (extracurriculars, community service, entrepreneurship, ect) are often the deciding factor of admission, given that all competitive applicants have amazing stats. So if you dedicate your time to more than just academics, you should definitely have a shot!</p>
