I’m going to be a high school senior this coming school and year and began the college search earlier this year. I’m pretty set on majoring in Computer Engineering.

Through searching websites and what not I’ve come up with 5 schools that I’d like to apply to:

Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)
Case Western Reserve University (CWRU)
Ohio Northern University (ONU)
Ohio State University (OSU)
University of Cincinnati (UC)

My ACT is 26, GPA 3.62, didn’t take the SAT…don’t really plan on it… I’m 59/354 in my HS

I’ve visited RIT and really liked it, especially the co-op program they have
I’ve scheduled visits for the other 4 this month and next.

What are your thoughts on the above colleges? Are any of these a stretch for my grades? are there any others (near or in ohio, I don’t really want to go across the country) that I should look at?

Your ACT score puts you well in the range of ONU, OSU, and University of Cincinnati. RIT’s average range is 25-30, so you’re a bit on the low side. CWRU’s is higher (28-32)
Since you seem to like RIT a lot if you were able to convey your interest in the coop program with your passion for comp. engineering, that could help you out a lot.
So here’s what I think:
ONU,OSU,UC-good matches
RIT-low reach (If you really like RIT you could apply ED, which could make it a match)
CWRU-reach

Ok thanks, thats kinda what I was thinking based on what I saw from their websites. Do you think it would be beneficial to take the ACT again to try to get it a little higher of a score?

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana - great school. Your ACT is near the bottom of the middle half, though.

ED = Early Decision: You apply early (November-ish) and get notified early (December-ish) with the contract that if you get accepted, you will go. You should only do this if you have a clear first-choice school and you don’t want to compare financial aid packages. (Yes, you can get out of ED, and no, they don’t chain you up and force you to go, but that is the understanding and the expectation.)
