Am I on track?

Here’s what I have so far (9th+10th grade)

3.77 GPA
92.1 average
Spanish Honor Society
National Beta Club (and NHS next year)
PSAT 168 (in 10th grade)
I’m joining Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) this yr

By the end of HS, I would have taken 6 AP courses (World Hist, US Hist, Psych, Calc AB, Stat, Chem) I got a 3 on the World Hist AP Test last May

I’ve gotten letters from top colleges, but this is what I have narrowed to (in order of preference): UT-Austin, USC (southern cal), UF, UMiami, UM-Ann Arbor, OSU-Columbus, PSU-Univ Park, UW-Seattle, Notre Dame, UGA.

If my grades hold suit, what are my chances to get into these colleges? Any advice would also be appreciated.

hello? anyone there?

^The letters you received are no indication of your chances at those schools. If you checked a box during your PSATs, you open yourself to college spam, the likes of which you’ve never seen.

^^^^^^^ I wish someone had told me earlier lol. If I were My SAT will def be between 1900-2000. My GPA will be about 3.8. How do my chances look with those scores?

Gotta back billabongboy9828 on the letters - the college spam is going to get outrageous and they will write almost anything to get you to apply in their letters. They don’t have any bearing on admissions.

I’m only going to chance you on the universities I am very familiar with (lol, otherwise it would be complete guessing and therefore useless to you):

Reach- UM Ann Arbor, Notre Dame, USC

UT Austin is going to be a match/high match for you but really depends on whether you’re in state or out of state. If you’re in state and in the top 8% of your class, you have automatic acceptance to UT. Lower rank is harder but not impossible.

Good luck!!!

^^^^^^Thank you jaime. BTW does “high match” mean it’s closer to “safe” or closer to “reach” ? I am a GA resident, the only reason I’m even considering UGA. Accounting major (at this point).

high match is closer to reach and i agree that usc, notre dame, and umich are going to be reaches for you.

I’m guessing all the rest are matches, right?

Sorry, but I gotta agree with the others. Letters are just a way of increasing college revenue: they are indicative of almost nothing. But jaimelescheavaux pretty much has it down in terms of how the schools will lay out for you.

When I mentioned how the schools were writing to me, I wasn’t alluding to the thought that it would give me a leg up in the admission process. What I was trying to say was, “Of all the colleges that have written me, these are the one’s that interest me the most.” Even then, I know I am of the caliber of a top 25-50 school so don’t worry I’m no too heartbroken lol. But can anyone tell me about the other colleges? Remember, 3.8 GPA, 1900-2000 SAT.

You are aware that you will that the PSAT/NMSQT this year in about a month? A 168 isn’t going to get you anything. Aim for at least 200. That being said, you still have a year. Take your SAT/ACT this winter; see how you do. Then take the SAT IIs in the fall.

Thanks. I’ve already signed up for the PSAT. I bought a practice/study book, and on the pre-test I got a 185 (55CR 68M 62W). and yes my goal is a 200 (60 CR, 73M, 68W). I’ll take the SAT in the spring (Feb-Apr), then SAT 2s in the fall. I should probably wait til after my JR year, when things will be much more clear.

^PSAT scores can be misleading. I got a 179 PSAT in my junior year (no studying) and then took an 2 SAT practice tests on my own this summer and I got a 2060 and 2140. I didn’t study for them or anything. I think if you take a lot of AP’s junior year and then take the tests, you naturally get more intelligent and your reasoning skills get better. Good Luck :)

^and about those letters, a lot of the top colleges send a LOT of letters to prospective students. The rumor is that they do it to get some students to get false hopes and then apply, so that the colleges can reject them and thus lower there precious admit rate.

^Agreed. I think I had a 207 PSAT and a 2260 SAT.

Besides, I wouldn’t stress out too much about PSATs anyway. You probably won’t end up as a NMSQT finalist, which is 100% fine, so the test won’t really matter at all.

Billabong- I’m not too stressed about it. It’s really just a measuring stick for my SAT goal. If I get a 195 or so, I can set my goal for the SAT at 2000+. I probably wont get NMS but being commended would be nice.

RADtomato- I took an Ap my SOPH year. I’m taking 2 this yr (US HIst, Psych) along with Pre-Calculus (AP Calc is only for Seniors).

I appreciate all the advice you guys have given.

With that PSAT score you’re in anywhere, but HYP might be a slight reach

^Wat??? A 195 PSAT and he’s in anywhere. Your joking right. PSAT scores don’t mean anything beside the NMS thing.
