So college decision month started out well: I was accepted to six schools, including Northeastern, Colby, and some safeties. Then I was waitlisted at Williams, Amherst, Middlebury, and Wesleyan. Now, I’m feeling extremely discouraged because I only have six schools left to hear back from–two of which are Vassar and Tufts, and four of which are Ivies. Is the fact that I was waitlisted at these schools a good indicator that I will not be accepted into my remaining schools, since they are equally/more competitive? For the record, I have a 1520 SAT and I’m val (UW) / sal (W).
Don’t over analyze. You got accepted into six schools! If any of those options are affordable then you WILL be heading off to college in the fall. You can only attend one school. And it isn’t over yet, you are still waiting for several decisions.
Nobody can predict admissions to highly selective schools. You already have two excellent acceptances and you can only attend one college.
You can only go to one school…sounds like you have 6 choices already, assuming they are all affordable?
Having opportunities concurrently with deadlines is a fact of life. Be prepared to have this happen when applying for jobs. My bias beautiful Colby in Maine and would have accepted by return everything. Great location in that is close enough to ocean, cities skiiing, and with a superb education! Lucerne Inn.
I assume that you were admitted to schools including safeties that you would attend. Do you have second thoughts about any except Colby that you should eliminate? Do so. What is your deadline for deciding? Back that up by 5 days or a week so you don’t get crunched by acceptance such as delay in mail, computerness, whatever. Eliminate waitlist schools because they are a part of an academic lottery.
After you have gotten down to core picks. Know that all will provide an excellent education with some differences, but not enough for selection purposes. Go social. Where would you like to live for four years and what would you enjoy doing? Use your imagination. If there is a picture of a school activity, do you look like you could be in that picture and look like you belong. Look at pictures sent by the school and then look up the places on wikipedia.
When selecting schools and jobs later select the one that touches your heart and don’t look back. Even if you come to reject the decision, often for a strange reason such as a smelly paper mill, you will have a world of options and choices. Test
Congratulations!!! This is very exciting!
