Am I qualified for Brown?

I applied to Brown as a transfer student for the Fall 2012 semester. I’m anxious to know whether or not I even have a chance of getting in.

Also applied to:

(Brown University)
Cornell University
Boston University
Syracuse University
Binghamton University

Here are the stats for my first two years of college.

Monroe CC / Onondaga CC
Major: Economics
Cumulative GPA: 3.8
Credits: 68
Courses: Calculus I, Calculus II, Business Law I, General Chem I, General Psychology, Intro to Literature, Intro to Business, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Statistics I, Chinese I, Contemporary Global Issues, World History, International Development and Change

High School: GPA ~93
AP: Only took AP English, but scored 4 on exam, so it won’t transfer to Brown
Extra Curriculars: Music (percussionist): NYSSMA All State '08 and '09, Accepted into All Eastern Music Festival, Percussion Ensemble, Winter Drumline, Field Band, Pit Ensemble, DCA Syracuse Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corp '08, etc…
Other EC’s: Social Justice Club, Business Club, Debate Club

Std. Tests: ACT Composite (w/ writing): 30

I also studied abroad this year in Southern Mexico. This was heavily incorporated into my application essays, because I want to become a Portfolio Manager, and specialize in Socially Conscious Investing. My time in Mexico was spent studying the effects of NAFTA and the globalization of capitalism, especially on the indigenous population.

My accounting professor and sociology professor (who is also a professor at Cornell) wrote my letters. Both were outstanding.

Does it look like I have a shot?

Thanks!

I might add that I read through the “Brown Transfer Thread” from last year, and many of the individuals who were accepted posted similar stats to mine, but Brown’s applicant pool grows each year, and they only admitted 200 transfer applicants last year.

Also, I keep reading about the role of financial aid in the admission decision. I submitted my updated FAFSA to all schools that I applied to. Is this considered applying for financial aid, or is there a separate process through the school directly? I heard that applying for aid lowers your chances of being admitted. I was planning on paying for my education through federal loans. How will this affect their decision?

Just withdrew my FAFSA from Brown. I’m convinced that NOT applying for FA increases your chances of being admitted.

Doesn’t anybody have input?

Wait. Isn’t the FAFSA required for federal loan consideration to your specific school? Wouldn’t that bar you from receiving federal loans?

Update: Looking it over, what Brown refers to when applying for Financial Aid is the CSS profile, as worded here: http://www.brown.edu/about/administration/financial-aid/transfer-applicants-us-citizens-and-permanent-residents

The FAFSA has no affect on your application’s financial status for Brown.

Yeah. I’m trying to figure that issue out. I would rather increase my chances of getting in and then figure out the financial aspect of attending later. Private loans may be an option, as my parents are willing to co-sign for me. Could I re-apply for FAFSA AFTER being accepted, or would they withdraw my acceptance?

I believe you need to wait one entire year to re-apply to FAFSA, but please confirm it elsewhere as I am not entirely clear of the process; though, that is usually how it works for Canadian federal loans to study abroad.

If you feel Brown is the place for you, as it is mine, then you can elect to go through private loans. But please evaluate your options, through discussion with your parents to asking for clarification from Brown’s admission office before you make your final move.

I will resubmit my FAFSA in that case. I wasn’t sure if that was considered applying for financial aid. As long as it won’t affect my chances, I would prefer direct federal loans, as those will have a lower interest rate. Thank you for your responses.

Any others who might be able to inform me of my chances (stats above)?
