Am I right or my parents??

Okay. So I took calculus 1 over the summer so I can take calc II during spring semester so I can take the BC exam. So I told my Calc teacher I took Calc 1 over the summer because I don’t want to get credit that I don’t deserve because people who I working harder than me (since they didn’t take the class) deserve it more. Well, my parents got ****ed at me cuz I guess they wanted me to receive all the credit and not be morally right and let the people who really deserve the recognition get it. Was I right to tell my calc teacher about this, or should I have just bit my tongue and not say anything? Right now we’re not talking to each other so I want to see if I should apologize for something I don’t feel I did wrong, or just wait for them to apologize.

If anything, I assume the teacher would think better of you – taking Calc I over the summer indicates you’re a harder worker. It’s not your fault you have to repeat a course you already took. It’s probably the administration’s fault for not letting you pass ahead.

I say your right. Your just being honest.

I think you’re right.

AH. My mom just walked in in her sweet little voice trying to say “Oh I didn’t mean to upset you. I was just so shocked. I hope you see what you did wrong.” OMG WHAT DID I DO WRONG?!?!?!?! Of course I completely ignored her but omg I just wish I knew what exactly I did wrong!!! ahhhhhh

You’re absolutely right. You’re coming into the class with a different level of preparation than the other students; it’s only fair of you to let the teacher know.

Have you asked your parents what, specifically, they object to?

i think ur right

Okay well my mom apologized even though she’s only apologizing because that’s the only way I’ll talk to her. They think that my teacher (who loves me because I was an active member of Math club which she sponsered last year and scored the highest for the precalc division at states) will tell the school to push me up to Calc II/III which she would never do and if she did wouldn’t be such a big deal. They also think that she will grade me harder which I don’t think she will since it’s calculus and there’s only one real answer (at least on most questions). Not like statistics. I just wanted her to know that I know how to do calculus adn I can do it. I could tell her what the Fundemental Theorem of Calculus is. My parents are psycho I swear!

there was nothing wrong. you were right.
I don’t see why it will hurt you if your teacher knows you took the class. if you start failing the teacher might be harsher on you now, but since you took the class I don’t think failing is likely.

tell your parents “honesty is the best policy”

i always hear adults telling me that, and your parents probably brought you up on that same moral

i can’t stand when parents are hypocrites…

Ya I kinda got 100 in my calculus 1 class over the summer so failing is very unlikely. I didn’t tell my teacher what grade I go tin the class so she doesn’t know how good I really am in the class. I just wish my parents can see it in my eyes.
^^ Surprisingly no because I never lie. I always tell the truth which is kinda a good thing and also bad because I can’t LIE!!! Oh well. I know I did the right thing and may see her tomorrow to straighten things out because my parents are really scared my grade will osmehow go down.

you’re not alone. parents always want the best for their kids, so much that they think they are the only one who knows what’s best. just let the argument die down… what’s done is done. they will see that you won’t get moved up to calc II and that you won’t get graded harder, and as they are not listening to you, just give it time. sometimes it is best to show, not tell.

The school has been known to do that sort of stuff if you complain enough and/or do well enough on practice AB tests. If you wanted to, you could probably skip to Calc II/III.
How do you think Mason and I got moved up?

but anyhow. if nothing else you’ll totally pwn everyone else in math competitions

^ ya, but I really don’t want to be moved up. I’m taking calc II spring semester w/ an old teacher from middle school (who is amazing!) since I’m no longer MSE and now IB. Junior year I’m taking Math methods II and taking Calc III and diff eq fall semester and spring semester. My parents were afraid I was going to ruin that “plan” when I told her.
