am i ruined?

bad freshman year. 2.0 GPA no extra curriculars.no real recognitions except some this national french contest diploma.(13th in state).

bad year.im planning to play soccer next year until 12th grade.,defiantely bring grades up.and do the IB diploma program in 11th and 12th grade.and some volunteer wok the next few summers.will save me?i feel like im ruined for high school with such a bad year

you’re not ruined.
just stay true to your plans…and pull your grades up.
sophomore year is your year…
do it like nike and just do it.

Well, I’m kinda in your spot except that I’m fine with grades (All As and a B). My problem this year was getting involved, and that is something I have to change.

well at least im not ruined.i was never used to bad grades.and then all of a sudden i dont know what happen.will self studying AP’s help?

Self-studying AP exams will help and is a definite bonus to colleges. It’ll awe them.

If colleges see that you changed after this year, then you are not ruined.

Keep it at this pace and you will go straight to community college without a scholarship.

You can do it!

Self studying APs will definitely not help if you are not going to pass the exams. I recommend taking the courses.

like what asianami said, self-studying AP exams really do help a lot (in my opinion, helped more than cramming AP textbooks in last few weeks… haha) but then it’s not the end of the world. i didn’t do that well in my freshman year as i got my ps2 around the final time (no comment) and bombed all the finals but then i still got into my dream university (emory) by doing well in sophomore year and playing soccer, and whatnots. so don’t give up :)

Oh yeah, first semester was a mess for me. 1 A (in PE, pffff), the rest Bs and Cs, even did blunt for a while, really messed me up badly. Ive pulled together for the most part, just one B in one of my classes now. What got me off my ass (SORRY) are these quotes ->

If you can’t run with the big dogs, stay on the porch

You can have results or excuses. Not both.

First say to yourself what you would be;
and then do what you have to do.

I even persuaded my football coach to hang one up in our weightroom, haha! Good luck, you better bust your ass.

tahnks everybody, the school yea just ended and i am already studying AP psychology to be more than ready come may 2009 for the AP test.im also planning on self studying AP human geography and taking AP euro as a class.

My husband used to say that there is always a good excuse not to study. Keep that posted somewhere to motivate yourself.
Also, in the past colleges didn’t really pay that much attention to the 9th grade, beyond noticing grades, etc. It supposedly didn’t factor into their decision to admit or not.
So see the handwriting on the wall. Roam around in collegeconfidential and then motivate yourself to work hard.
Good luck.

For all but a few select universities you don’t need to get involved at all. I got into all UCs with just a few token public service ECs. No sports, no leadership, no work experience. Granted, my grades and scores were good but I wouldn’t even consider my self exceptionally intelligent. I didn’t even qualify for AIME for instance. To get into a good uni all It just takes hard word, and smarts in picking classes you know you can do well in.

thank you,ill be sure to do that.

If you go with your plan, you will be far from ruined. Colleges look for improvement. Yours will be quite the slope if you can manage to turn it around soph year! But make sure that you’re up for the challenge. It’s good to take maybe two AP classes if you never have before, it’s not so much if you take 6. Good luck!

Why are you ruined? Because you can’t get into the best college? What is college anyway? Some very successful people did not go to college at all. Just work hard, have no regrets, and do your best.

Jus tdo your best form now on and shpw an upward grade trend

Umm…we’ll I guess it depends on where you want to go. If you’re asking for HYP, then yes. You’re ruined. If you’re still fine with going to a moderate school, then as long as you keep improving, you’ll be fine.

Think “upward trend”…
