My dad got his masters degree at unc chapel hill in environmental engineering. We currently live out of state. I’ve heard that children of alumni who live outside of nc have doubled chances of getting in compared to out of state kids who have non-alumni parents. However, I’m not sure if I’m technically a daughter of alumni because my dad didn’t get his bachelor’s degree there. Do I still qualify for these benefits?

You are the daughter of an alumnus of the Grad school. How UNC undergrad chooses to value that is beyond your control. Colleges vary in their treatment of kids of grad/professional schools vs. the college.

Bump???

why would you hesitate to check the box and supply the information? You are an out of state student with an alumni connection to the university, which even if for graduate school, is more connected that someone from OOS who has no alumni connection. What do you have to lose? It’s not like you are making it up…

LOL: I guess you didn’t like my explanation? OK, I take it back. I guess you were hoping the Dean of Admissions for UNC to reply to you.

Son called UNC’s admissions office last yr with this exact question and was told that children of grad/prof. schools graduates are treated the same as children of undergrad graduates.

I would say your an alumni. If the application doesn’t specify wether your parent had to be an undergrad or graduate student put it on the app.

Just put the information in the application… it can’t hurt. I can’t see how it would make a difference in where you put applications in.
