When colleges don’t list intro classes on their major requirements, but only later ones that have those as prerequisites. It makes me feel like I’m not getting anything done in my first year or so.

Yes, this is especially a problem for majors with strict sequential classes like math or statistics.

I don’t think my college does that so…

They have a flowchart that link everything and their prerequisites. Maybe your college does this?

I can’t think of any major at my school that does that. You might run into that situation if you take a class in another department in place of another course required for the major, but that’s the exception rather than the rule.

@ipodsinger: Yeah, that’s what I had in mind. Sciences and computer science, too.

I so wish my school had flowcharts for this type of thing… Trying to figure out what classes I can take for my CS minor has just been a complete pain.

Holy crud, I’m not the only one minoring in CS.

Try setting up a meeting with a CS advisor or department head and write everything down. Online materials aren’t always reliable, anyway; I found out about a couple of requirements of my school’s CS major that weren’t listed online, and this was a large part of why I decided to minor off.
