Am I the Only One Who Doesn't Understand the Comforter/Duvet Cover Combo??

I have duvet clips (I think that is what you call them). They are small metal clips with a foam cushion around them. I lay the duvet on the bed (inside out), put the clips on each end and flip the comforter outside in. I love the clips because it keeps the comforter in its place while you are using it.

Wash the comforter often in large capacity machines.

No duvet covers in this house.

What Idad said- if you have an open stairway, hold the corners and shake it out over the bannister.

Our king sized duvet takes less than 5minutes. The trick is 2people. Lay cover on bed. From my side of the bed, left hand grabs the top corner of the cover and pushes it inside out and into the duvet cover toward where my right hand is pulling the top corner of the comforter into the bottom opening. Spouse is doing the reverse. Once you have the comforter corners grabbed from the outside, step back and hold top edge level. Shake a few times. Lay whole thing down and adjust bottom corners. Grab all 4 corners and shake, paying attention to keeping top edge of comforter up level with top edge of cover. Very fast, no bannister needed, just a sleep partner…

You should only duvet if you luvet.

Yes, and/or spread a flat sheet on top of the whole thing. Then you can get a little more mileage out of the duvet cover if you are using one.

If you search “how to put a duvet cover on” on youtube you will see examples of both the inside out cover on method and the two corners in the top method. I use the latter method and have never had any problems…even with king sized covers.

Mattress pad, dust ruffles, duvet cover, comforter, sleeping pillows, throw pillows. Sometimes I miss the used mattress and sleeping bag from college. Wait a minute. No I don’t.

You can sew buttons on both corners on the top of the comforter and then make a couple of button holes at the top two corners of the duvet. If your comforter is big, just sew a button at the top in the middle for added security, then make a third button hole on the duvet. After buttoning all 3 holes, give it a few shakes and you are all set.

Yes, this was also one of my methods when I used to use these. Now I only have them on the guest beds (which almost always have the same guests, my parents, so while I change the sheets I don’t have to wash the duvet covers every time).

I often feel tempted by duvet covers in catalogs, then come to my senses and remember how much I hate dealing with them.

Ahem, cbreeze, you must come from a family that sews… “Make a couple of button holes” might as well be “fly to the moon & back” for me.

You forgot the sheets and pillowcases.

BTW, they’re not called “dust ruffles” anymore; they’re called “bed skirts.”

Only fitted sheets. What’s there to understand? It is a pain to put the cover but once done making bed is a breeze. No flat sheets get in the way when you sleep, either.

We lived in Europe a few years ago and I learned to love duvets! Brought one home in our shipment and the covers are almost threadbare! Any great sources for covers? Some are better than others, I’m sure.

My duvet cover recent started to disintegrate, so I’m in the market for a new one, too. I was thinking of checking out The Company Store online, and the Cuddledown outlet near me.

LLBean, Lands’ End, your local Bed Bath & Beyond, fancy upscale places like Frette. I’m sure there are dozens of others.

In fact, here’s one for only $4,500 from Frette: http://www.frette.com/for-your-bed/shop-by-type/duvets/ltd-italia-duvet-cover-fw11.html#

Consolation: also check out jcpenney.com for duvet covers

Years ago, my MIL sent us a duvet cover for a twin duvet. She bought it in Switzerland. It did NOT fit the twin duvet we had. We wondered if european sizes were perhaps a bit different.

Yes, thumper, European sizes are a bit different. We can only use flat sheets on the mattress we brought home. Fitted sheets just don’t work…

Comforters and comforter covers are not necessarily standardized in size, except possibly within brands. I bought a Fieldcrest queen comforter which is 5" wider than standard, so only Fieldcrest covers will fit. Worth it for the extra five inches but it does limit replacement cover options.

I bought my last two duvet covers at target of all places. They have a fieldcrest luxury line that I really like. I liked that brand for their sheets also.

It is a pain to get the cover in but I really love my comforter and duvet cover. So comfy.
