Am I the only one???

I know everyone is very stressed right now. I know this is a life-changing decision for all of us as well. But, am I the only one that is saddened to see the complaints about the USC staff? I believe it would be best for all of us to understand how overwhelming their task is. They received a record number of applicants this year, yet no one gave them more time to process them than they have had in prior years. They must be running themselves ragged trying to process all of our applications. They are having to move the paperwork along, while auditing it for missing information, and field all of the desperate phones calls from people wanting to know if their application has been processed. Their phones must be ringing off the wall with anxious people pleading for a thread of information about their acceptance. All the while knowing that their website says, you will hear by April 1st. They are not losing patience with you on the phone because they “get it”. They are good people who understand how stressful this is for all of us right now. They truly get it. So, why are some of you losing patience with them?

There are only three business days left until the final decisions for rejected or accepted will be out. Can we all try to rally around them and stop making the phone calls? They need the chance to get their work done. They know this is a life-changing decision for us, they do feel that responsibility. They are trying to give the same answers to each caller, so as not to be unfair to anyone. Can’t we just all give them a break? Let’s make an effort to stop the phone calls, let them do their jobs. They need our help this year. Remember, it is not just CC people calling, but tons of other kids/parents who submitted applications this year.

Am I the only one who feels this way? If you don’t, then at least stop bashing them please. Give them the break they so richly deserve.

Hippity-hop…(just hopped off my soapbox lol)

Tornados, I’ve seen you over at the Cal Poly board and I want to compliment you on your amazingly positive attitude. Thank you for that.

Awww, 21leashes, you made my day!!! Thank you so much. And I do remember you from those boards as well. Nice to see you here too.

I totally agree. Everyone will get a letter. Decisions aren’t given over the phone so there’s no reason to call them. Plus, I want them to use their extra minutes to look at my app again and accept me!

toronados, I saw you on the CalPoly board too. That is one of the schools that I am gonig to consider if I don’t get into USC. It just seems the vibe is so different. They do have the Green Light Business track that I will pursue.

It looks like that or the Honors program at CU Boulder. I was accepted to B-Schools at the private colleges in CA that most everyone on here was too. But, I really want that Rah rah USC school experience!!

werty1992…yes, I remember you from there too. I am so glad you got your acceptance for Cal Poly. I wish I had…that was probably my biggest disappointment so far. It is a totally different vibe than USC. USC is just plain family, not getting around that. Although it would have been an amazing experience to get into Cal Poly, it would be even greater to get into USC.

MMMMmmmm, I really like Boulder though. Colorado is so amazing. Let me know what B-school you choose! But I will keep my fingers crossed for the USC experience.

BLEED CARDINAL AND GOLD!!! lol

What frustrates me about USC’s process is their wave system. It’s ludicrous. All regular decision students should get decisions simultaneously, the way it works at just about every other school in the country. It is because of the wave system that we get so upset and anxious at USC. If they cut out that process we’d all be satisfied.

AJArle…I understand what you are saying. That would be an easier system, but I think they are trying to get them out and process them as quickly as possible. It seems that they are trying to not make one applicant have to wait until everyone else is processed. If I had the choice between the two types of systems, I would chose the same date notification system though.

Perhaps they do it this way so the housing staff is not inundated??? As it is probably a much smaller staff than the admissions staff?? I don’t know, I am grasping at straws to find the silver lining in their process. I just know it has to be for a good reason or they wouldn’t do it this way.

I do understand what you are saying though.

Their phones would be ringing less if they just did same date. For that matter, why don’t they do an online system like other schools now do? I understand that USC is very small relative to other schools but the wave system is just breeding grounds for stressed and anxious applicants, which in turn makes Admissions more stressed if their phones are ringing off the hook. I just think USC is creating more stress for themselves and for applicants.

agreed… wave system needs to change… further no online notifications are ridiculous…

For sure, the Admission Officers who get calls about “When is the next wave?” or “When are you sending acceptances out?” or any type of question regarding acceptances get very annoyed. The status CLEARLY states you’ll find out by April 1st, and they’re true to their word on that (but if the acceptance doesn’t find it’s way to your hands by April 1st, then blame the mail system). I know for a fact that they mail EVERYTHING out, including rejections and spring admits before April 1st.

Please remember, Admission Officers are HUMAN BEINGS!! They function like every human being on this planet: They sleep, eat, read applications (only AdCom people do that :stuck_out_tongue: ) and other humanly functions. Also, they have to go through record number of applications this year, and to tell you the truth, they do not want to reject people, they want all of you to come, but there are only limited spots and they’re trying to find the last few most well qualified students to come to USC.

So, having said that, it doesn’t matter if you’re accepted or rejected (you can appeal your decision or you can transfer into USC as a sophomore), the Admission Officers are the true heroes behind all of you. They are the ones (besides President Sample and soon-to-be President Nikias) who shape the Trojan Family.

AppleWater…my words exactly…well, sort of, pretty much, almost identical…yea, so I agree with you 100%!!!

so right now, is there still a mixed batch of fall and spring admits coming? or is it pretty much spring admits and rejects for this weekend and next week?

Much of the stress is the result of applicants speculating wildly about what each word in their status might mean. Two threads will go up - one asking if a particular word is a sure sign they are accepted… while the other goes up at the same moment speculating that same word it is a sure sign of rejection. Few posters take the time to read existing threads that sensibly explain the very thing they are asking about.

As for the waves - I say this over and over… but here we go again: USC has stated clearly on their website from your first visit to apply and in every peice of correspondance you have received that you will hear by April 1st. That date has not passed.

There is one upside that most of you here benefit from: the USC College Confidential forum is different (and by different I mean BETTER) than any other forum on College Confidential. The very stress that we all complain about seems to draw all of you together to support each other. You don’t see that on the other school forums - at least not nearly as much. You have found friends here. The support here is your first introduction to what “The Trojan Family” really means.

Thanks for letting me borrow your soapbox, tornados!!!

alamemommy…I could not have said it better and I am honored to share my soapbox with you!!

Lots of schools send out admissions on a rolling basis . . .

Torna: I agree with what you have said. I have not called either main admission or SCA for over three weeks-I still have “glitches” on my UCConnect, but gen. admission said not to worry about it, so…thanks for keeping us focused…

Lots of schools send out admissions on a rolling basis . . .

… true but most don’t take three-four months to decide + no EA ED. I don’t know any other schools in USC’s tier that do it the way they do with no EA and no ED

That is because there is no other school like USC in ANY tier! I, for one, do not want USC to be like “any other school.”

nwfilmstudent…thanks for the comment. I hope you get in!!
