Am I too late? Where can i start researching?

Am i too late for most of the things? I will be graduating in 2015, but somehow, i lack a lot of knowledge in many fields (like what college i’ll apply for etc) I gave my TOEFL exam and got 87(planning to retake) and will be taking SAT in Feb or March. My major is Computer Engineering. By the way, I’m from Mongolia (International student). I was wondering, in what fields can i research so i can go into a decent university with good financial aid when I graduate?

Hi! Wow I think you’re kinda late. If you’re giving your SAT in feb and march, will colleges be willing to accept scores this late? Anyway, if you do well enough, you can try for MIT, though it’s extremely competitive. GeorgiaTech and UVA are also good schools. You know you have to take subject tests as well right? If I were you, I’d move up the date to Jan and give them ASAP. The deadline for sending your regular applications to US colleges is Jan. 1st for most, so send them NOW.

First, I would advise you to post on one or more of these forums: College Search and Selection, International Students, and Parents Forum. The posters are far more knowledgeable about this I am.

As an international student, you’re very unlikely to find good financial aid in the US, since most schools are need-aware for internationals. One thing you can do is go to a community college for two years, complete pre-reqs there, and transfer to a state school.

Community colleges accept anyone (exceptions are like criminal records or something), and can most likely be done after January. In California it’s a popular option, because with a good GPA you can transfer into UCs and CSUs easily, and TAG (transfer admission guarantee) at some CC’s let you guarantee a spot at certain colleges.

I know many international students at a CC where I dual enroll (in CA). Many students going into CS decide to TAG into UC Davis (3.4+ GPA and core classes). If you would like some links to get started, or other advice, feel free to ask or PM me. Good luck, and please try posting in another forum!
