AMA show

I was as shocked as I am sure my kids grandparents would have been had they seen Adam Lambert last night. Normally I am far less conservative than they are, but … And this was on network television! That performance was definitely inappropriate. As were the lyrics to the song. Standards just keep creeping lower and lower.

Apparently the face/crotch/ humping part was edited out for the West coast. This write up sums the performance up quite well to me.

I find it kind of ironic that the West coast gets the edited version while the East and more conservative central time zones got the full monty.

Just talked to DD who is a college freshwoman. She felt it was way over the top. Said the kids were talking about how at this rate when they have kids full sex scenes will be on prime time television.
I can’t use the words she used to describe it on cc but it had to do with faux oral sex. (swimcatsmom thanks for the pc way to say it…i couldn’t think of it).

Ebeeee- I was wondering what the reaction would be from young adults. I didn’t know if a generation who grew up with music videos and MTV would find it inappropriate. I doubt my son saw it. Doubt he even knows who Adam Lambert is. I know his TV viewing yesterday was limited to the Denver/San Diego game. He was not happy with that game.
I did not even know the AMA was happening. Sunday night is Amazing Race and Next Iron Chef night. I did watch on You Tube. I was shocked that it was on prime time on network TV. If I had seen it on MTV I would have just commented to myself that I was getting old. I find a lot of the music that some of the kids listen to and the videos a bit over the top. My son listens to rap and I am shocked at many of the lyrics.

My 15 year old did not see it (had gone to bed), but heard it discussed on the radio today and I explained it to him because I knew he’d hear about it soon enough and I’d rather he hear it from me (Ryan Seacrest was describing how his mom called him after the show about Adam Lambert.) He (my son) was appalled by the oral sex gesture. I think he felt that the fake oral sex went way beyond the pale even for a push-the-envelope music awards show.

I should add here that my D is not a prudish type. We go to a spinning class with major rap music and lyrics that are often on the edge for me. She has no problem with it. It was interesting to me that even she and her friends thought it was too much. Gives me an idea of how over the top it was. I still haven’t seen it because I need to view it at home.

mom60…lol re: boys. I’m sure my son didn’t see it, doesn’t care and also may not know who Adam Lambert is. If he does know who AL is I’m sure the language he would use to describe him is not repeatable! DD is a big AI fan who really liked Adam on the show.

you can bet the powers that be that produced that show knew exactly what he was going to do…thats why he was the last performance of the night…though he states the “man kiss” was “in the moment”…

I’m scratching my head wondering who his target audience is…and whether he’s getting the proper career advice.

I am not a fan of American Idol , where I guess he obtained his fame, but from what I am seeing on the news, this was truly a tasteless performance…mainstream television is not the place for erotica , whether homo or hetero…what makes us as a society willing to watch this crap without protest ?

I am aware that this is not the first time when it comes to musical performers …Britney Spears/Madonna…Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake…probably others too…
The shock value to me only accentuates their lack of musical talent, or a desperate need for attention…
glad I didn’t tune in

I am not a parent. Actually, I haven’t parents and quite enjoy lurking about and occasionally posting in the two parents forums.

I am the oldest 21 year old you guys will ever meet because I thought that Adam Lambert was way over the top. One of my pals told me of it, and I had to You Tube it. I thought it ghastly and I am about to call my pal back all crotchety like and everything.

Lady Ga Ga I am going to You Tube later. I like her because she is an actual musician who just seems to be one for performance art as near as I can tell. She is also very tolerant minded towards GLBT youth and I hope she becomes a nice role model for that because they all surely do need some support on a public level.

Well, I just felt like sharing that  I feel like someones’ eight five year old granny or something :)

^Welcome to the parents’ cafe, Grandma Milderd :)

I dont’t mind seeing two people kiss each other (either a hetrosexual or a homosexual couple is fine) on stage, if it is a tastefully done kiss - no face eating, no sticking tongues, no gyration, thrusting, etc. The garbage-like preformace of Adam that I saw yesterday was not even close to art (and it did a huge disservice to gays and lesbians, IMO).

I got busy last night when I got home from work and never watched it on You Tube. Just went to watch and it has been pulled. There is some nonsense about how it was pulled due to a copyright claim by Dick Clark productions.

^You didn’t miss much other than a tacky display of psuedo-erotica and terrible
vocals (more like the screams of a cat in heat). Even the so called controversial man-on-man kiss and simulated oral sex didn’t distract from the horrible sound coming out of his mouth.

I think he even managed to top the Green Day’s horrible singing.

And Rhianna’s.

backlash has started…Adam’s Good Morning america appearance has been cancelled

And as a result of the GMA cancellation, CBS’s The Early Show will have Adam singing live and being interviewed on their show tomorrow morning.

I watched the show with my 84 year old mother who thought that Carrie Underwood was scandalous so you can imagine what she thought about Eminem and 50 Cent. She just shook her head through Lady GaGa. She stayed up to see Adam Lambert because she saw him some on American Idol and liked his voice - when he didn’t scream. Let’s just say he lost a fan, but I don’t think he was going after the 80 year old demographic.

I am a big Lambert fan, and I was disappointed. His tongue was more out of control than ever. He needs to learn to sing without lolling it about - very unattractive. I agree that he didn’t sound good but I don’t think his mind was on singing. I didn’t care about the kiss but even I was not expecting the crotch move.
