Amazing and noteworthy Dartmouth accomplishments

I’m just wondering if there are any great accomplishments made by the students, alumni, or professors at Dartmouth. I know Dr. Seuss went there. I’m very interested in the school, but a lot of folks tell me its a school for HYP rejects. I really doubt that though.

A lot of folks are dumb…just a few of Dartmouth’s accomplishments - Dartmouth was involved in the famous Supreme Court case Dartmouth v. New Hampshire, which set a very important precedent (still in use today) concerning charters given to institutions of higher learning. Dartmouth is also where the BASIC computer language was developed (the guy who invented it later went on to be president of Dartmouth). Other things of interest include the fact that the Tuck School of Business is the oldest business school of its kind in the world, and DMS is the 4th oldest medical school in the country. These are just some of Dartmouth’s accomplishments…there are plenty more, I just don’t feel like writing them all out right now.

Concerning HYP reject status…I already know plenty of people who turned down HYP to go here (not like we talk about stuff like that really though). And furthermore, the implication that an Ivy League school is a reject school for other Ivy League schools is a bit nonsensical. I’ll tell you one thing for sure - almost everybody who is here really wanted to go here. You may notice that Dartmouth has a smaller amount of applicants than say Harvard or Yale. The reason for this is because many of the people who applied here actually applied because they wanted to go to Dartmouth, and not because of the name, unlike some other Ivies where a bunch of people apply just so they can say, “I applied here!” 20 years from now.

I too know several ppl who chose Dartmouth over HYP. IMO, Dartmouth is right behind HYP along with Columbia in terms of pretige and selectivity.

My S’s advisor’s kid is applying to Dartmout and other LAC’s, but not HYP, so it definitely is a place that students want to go first choice, and not as an alternative to others.

These people that post about Dartmouth’s prestige confuse me actually…it’s a top 10, Ivy League school, 2 billion dollar endowment…what more do you want?
