Amazing Race Season 22 tonight! Spoiler thread!!

I just finished watching it on my PC.

I agree with the rest of you - good first show, good challenges and some exciting ones as well, and a great location. I’ve been to Tahiti but not Bora Bora but I’d like to visit that island someday. This is starting to look more interesting than the last season which I thought was somewhat lackluster in challenges and team dynamics - I hope they keep it up.

I agree on the players as well - I like the twin docs and several of the other teams - not crazy about the newlyweds with her forced smiles and not crazy about the first place team already talking about not following through with the pact.

The sand castle challenge was interesting. It looked to me like the docs weren’t digging deep enough for the clue and were only looking down to level with the beach but the clues were buried deeper than that. I could see they were deeper and one of the teams mentioned the point. They might have finished earlier if they’d have dug down another 3 inches. It was pretty weird about the 3 teams purposely taking the penalty - I haven’t seen something like that happen en masse on previous episodes.

It’ll be interesting to see who else I end up disliking and liking as the show progresses.

Being willing to quit a task on the first leg doesn’t bode well for those 3 teams and their motivation to “give it all” and succeed. I mean, I know it was hot and all, but as long as you have other teams competing, you have a chance.

Well, I hate it that my favorite team, the twin docs are gone, but you can’t come in to a race like this unprepared. If you don’t know how to swim, take swim classes. If you’re afraid of heights, go bungee jumping to see if you can do it. If you can’t run distances, start training. I hope the father on the father/son team is okay. I’d hate to see them out, too.

Exactly! Did they learn nothing from previous seasons? It’s a shame they did not try the other part of the challenge earlier.

Between the twins’ issue tonight and the father and son problems, it looks like it was a good idea not to give away the second express pass yet.

Well, so much for that prediction! :D

I agree with the above that they were idiots not to have prepared for a water challenge - just take swimming lessons, guys! But the worst of it was sitting in their boat whining about it for 45 minutes, wanting to take the penalty . … before they even tried! I lost all respect for them at that point and didn’t care anymore if they won or lost. They were already losers. Too bad.

After this many seasons of AR, how could a team be unprepared for a water challenge? As doctors, they may not have had alot of free time to prepare, but they llikely had the means to take private lessons at their convenience.

I’m so upset, I forgot to DVR it! I was just wrapped up in the Oscars . . .

You got me, dodgersmom, so much for the twin doctors :frowning: I did not see that coming.

Not only that, but it didn’t seem like they even considered trying the other Roadblock challenge until the very end. They were prepared to take a 6 hour penalty without even trying something else first. They disappointed me, and they were my favorites :(.

It just goes to show that brains, good looks, and a college education aren’t always the key to success!

And, yes, ELY, I will no longer be using you for psychic predictions. :D

Exactly! We could also ask a similar question as to how a team canNOT carefully read the entire clue before proceeding! Father and son were guilty of that.

Loved seeing Bora Bora and am looking forward to New Zealand!

Still hoping the father/son team can co to use to race.

The doctors seemed to be able to swim somewhat. They threaded water and must have swam to the jet ski . Very disappointing.

I hoped for a non elim but no such luck. They will probably have one next week with a team I don’t like coming in last!!

Ok, really, twins…I am no fan of open water either, but you can bet your butt that I would have at least TRIED both challenges before declaring “I can’t” - all their chatter ‘our mom never gave up’ and the like. Bah! I am disappointed in them!

Now I have to reassess and find a new team to cheer on. The YouTube hosts are doing very well, and they sure do smile and seem (so far) to enjoy what they’re doing. I’ll probably root for them and the Roller Derby moms. They also seem to be enjoying the experience along with the challenges.

It’s a tough choice - I love water and swimming but DON’T care for deep water and don’t care to be way under water - I think I would have chosen the oyster task before the treasure chest task.

Another part of their problem was that they were only bringing up one oyster at a time, when the other teams all untied the strings and brought up multiple oysters to open. That would make the task much more tiring. I don’t remember if the clue said anything about that or if the other teams just figured it out on their own.

Ely:
You can still watch the episode online at [CBS TV Network Primetime, Daytime, Late Night and Classic Television Shows](http://www.cbs.com). Hurry up and watch it before the next show since I don’t know if they allow watching more than the current one.

Like the rest of you, I can’t believe a team that petrified and incapable in the water wouldn’t have prepared by taking swimming lessons or just not doing the show. The docs were my favorites until this episode. I still like their personalities but they blew it on multiple levels - not being okay in the water, wasting at least 45 minutes just fretting about it talking about quitting, only bringing up one clam at a time instead of the whole string, and not thinking about just taking the other roadblock rather than doing a penalty. Once they did do the other roadblock it looked like they did okay.

I used to teach swim including to people who have never swum before. They could have hired someone to personally teach them. It would have taken a little while since it doesn’t come to everyone right away but it would have helped them a lot.

But that leads to a question maybe someone knows - I wonder how much advance notice they have that they were selected for the show? I’m wondering how much time they have to kick any training into high gear.

It almost sounded like I heard the father’s Achilles tendon snap but it could have been another noise. I hope that’s not really what it is.

The mulleted one’s wife seems really out of shape. I doubt they’ll make it through very far depending on the tasks.

I don’t really have a favorite at this point but still don’t really like the newlyweds.

During casting for season 3 I knew two women in their 50s who had each lost more than 150 pounds (yes, each). That was their “hook” - They were told they would hear within 6 days if they were chosen, and would leave on day 7. So not much time to train/prep. I lost track of them but they were never chosen.

Thanks JustaMom.

I guess people need to start training then when they submit their names for possible selection if they’re serious about wanting to go on the show. It sounds like it might have worked out well for the two women you know even though they weren’t selected. I hope they’ve been able to keep it off.

Yes, I agree, if I put my hat in the ring and send in an audition tape, I’m starting my ‘training’ and will train until the interview, and the notice to proceed. They got very far in the process, but it was just before the show won its first Emmy and was just gaining popularity. I think about those 2 women quite often.

I just caught up to my DVR. So sad to see the twin docs leave. They obviously had learned how to swim but perhaps not in open water which is very different from the controlled circumstances of a pool. It made me think of the Olympic swimmer Cullen Jones who became a swimmer after a near-drowning experience as a child. He’s tried to promote learning to swim for black children who face cultural barriers with swimming.

So far, I don’t like the newlyweds though they weren’t as bad this episode. I like the Asian girls, the derbymoms, and the hockey players. Mulletman and wife can’t possibly last, she’s in really bad shape. Some bigger women are strong and have endurance, she seems to have neither.

I have to say, Bora Bora sure did look pretty. If I was ever going to win an all expense vacation that would suit me just fine.

I like a few of these teams now and while I agree that the twin Doctors blew it by simply farting around so long before they went to the second challenge, I can also understand it. When I’m sleep deprived and under pressure, I don’t make the best decisions and since they were BOTH very uncomfortable with the deep water, neither of them was able to overrule the other one easily because they just felt that fear. They will be kicking themselves about that mistake long after we’ve forgotten them.
