Amazon account?

Do most college kids have Amazon accounts? Kiddo does not have a credit card. Hubby has an Amazon Prime account. Do we just add him to his account?

You can add him to H’s account. A student’s is cheaper but you have to share one account rather than make multiple like on regular amazon prime.

Most students I know do have Prime.

You can use a debit card on Amazon.

Most kids have Prime and Amazon is high on the list of places they get text books, both rentals and purchase. You can get an Amazon student account which is essential half price Prime but need to use .edu account and proof you’re a student (not an onerous process). Students also use it for streaming and other stuff that can be challenging to find in a college town, let alone for a good price.

Our son has one of our credit cards and uses it for things we pay for like books. ER copay, etc. Other purchases are on him and yes they take debit cards.

Nobody in my family has Amazon Prime. If I need something, I either buy enough that I get free shipping or I use a friend’s Amazon account. I order from Amazon twice a year on average.

My kids use my Amazon Prime account. I have an amazon credit card and like getting $ back for text book purchases. Seems like I order from Amazon weekly!

I believe the student accounts are free for the first 6 months then they charge $49 per year. You need a .edu email for a student account. We have Amazon packages almost everyday at our house. Both of my D’s and one of my D’s bf also use our account (with their credit cards!) so we make very good use of our prime.

@showmom858 yep - think you’re right, free 1st 6 months. Thanks for the catch! When my son started U 4 years ago it was free for 4 years, great deal. Not sure when it changed to a charge but it’s been fairly recent I think. You can also get Prime Student for >4 years with proof that you’re still a student.

My family all use the same amazon prime account. If he uses your credit card for his purchases (ex. textbooks) just ask him to let you know what he ordered in advance so you will have no surprises when you see your bill. Keep in mind that amazon prime has student discount rate so when it is up for renewal you may want to put the account in your son’s name.

We added Student Prime to our existing account and just have stuff shipped to an Amazon Locker at the school if they need something.

We first got prime through D2 and it was free. It became the family account and we all have our addresses and credit cards stored and everyone just has to be careful to make sure that their info is what’s being accessed when they order. I pay for the prime account now that D is well out of college and her free period ended ages ago. Well worth the money; collectively we order something at least weekly.

So, to repsond to the OP, yes, your S can just add his address and, if you wish him to, his debit card, and he can order on his own. He just needs to make sure he clicks on HIS debit card and HIS address unless he wants you to receive his textbook, shampoo, school supplies, etc. He also could use your H’s credit card and venmo you
