Amazon problem: Family in UK sent Amazon.co.uk gift card... anything I can do?

Soooooo after redeeming a gift card sent (electronically) from my family in the UK, I realized that it’s applied to a UK Amazon account rather than my regular Amazon account (which, apparently, it made for me automatically?)

I see now that you can’t redeem it on US Amazon accounts if they purchased it from UK Amazon.

Does this make sense? Anything I can do? It wasn’t a very large amount but it was thoughtful and would prefer that my relatives not know as I don’t want them to feel bad (and they would because that’s just the type of people they are).

I never would’ve thought that US Amazon would’ve been different from UK Amazon

You can use it on Amazon Uk.
Buy some Brit Harry Potter books, that’s what we did!

Can you do that? As long as that’s OK and I won’t have any issues because I don’t have a UK credit card or bank account, I’d do it in a heartbeat. I’d love the British HP books!

Why not just call amazon…?

I will probably after the wedding at some point if I don’t get it figured out. But I thought I’d ask from the very, very smart CC people

They should take a US credit card. I order stuff from a Liverpool hobby shop all the time. They deduct the VAT for a US sale, and it is often here in 3 or 4 days. Couldn’t be easier!

Awesome- that makes me feel better. I think I was just more surprised than anything.

Thanks!

My daughter orders things from Poland and the rest of Europe regularly, if not frequently.
U.S. Bank cards work just fine.

I just got a box with goodies from Selfridges, paid for with my US Costco Amex. I order stuff from the UK once in a while, no problems. The stores there prefer DHL for international shipping.

I order things from the German Amazon and Spanish Amazon all the time. They take our credit cards just fine. Shipping is even pretty reasonable. I don’t get prime on those though.

For my birthday I usually treat myself to British murder mysteries that are available on Amazon UK but aren’t available here yet.

Do you have a Kindle? You could use it for digital books! In fact, Amazon UK sometimes has Kindle books Amazon U.S. doesn’t
