I think it’s interesting how we all look at things through our own prisms. I’m not saying it was a hit by police. I’m not saying it’s not. I am waiting for more information to come out, but here are my questions … Why did three guys from Louisiana come to Dallas to buy drugs? Why would a drug dealer come forward to testify in the trial of an officer? If he was a drug dealer, why didn’t the defense attorney use that to question his credibility on the stand?
Here, an officer shot a naked black kid who obviously was unarmed. The head of the police union immediately said that the kid appeared to be on PCP, and people bought it hook, line and sinker. He was trying to direct the narrative in defense of his officer and make the skinny, naked kid appear to be a bigger threat than he was, hopped up on PCP and erratic. Toxicology results showed no PCP. What a shocker. Not.
Joshua, the dead witness, was driving. Or at least he was just getting out of his car, so I would expect him to have a license with him, at least. But perhaps it was in his backpack, which was taken.
I carry identification all the time unless I am literally just jogging around the block. Otherwise I always carry a license, and would include a credit card and medical insurance card, in case of accident. I made my kids do the same when they turned 16.
Did I read correctly that the backpack and gun are gone but that the guys who drove from Louisiana for drugs left the drugs and thousands of dollars behind?
I’ve read people saying that nobody drives 4 hours to buy weed, and therefore the drug story is fishy.
I don’t know whether the drug story is fishy and made up by cops, but I assumed this would have been a wholesale drug deal rather than a retail sale. That is, I assumed the people on the other side were buying or selling a large amount of drugs, that would later be divided up for individual sale.
There is a lot about this whole thing that is “fishy.” The details of the earlier shooting sound strangely vague. I thought it was odd that JB claimed to make a living managing 4 airbnbs in Dallas, LA, and Atlanta. That just doesn’t sound very plausible. Maybe I’m wrong.
Apparently he has a former drug charge-what kind I’m not sure.
He might well have been a nice enough young man who was also involved in the drug trade. The details of his murder seem to be largely coming from a person who has an interest in making JB seem more of a perpetrator than a victim.
Hopefully, more details will be revealed and they will be clear and credible. I hope his murder is solved, his family will get some justice, and the community here can get closure on all of it.
Based on what was found in his apartment, it does look as though Joshua Brown was in fact a drug dealer.
The attorney representing his family now admits that it appears he was killed in some botched drug deal/robbery rather than being assassinated by the DPD.
As to the DPD’s assertion that Joshua Brown not only was involved in a drug deal but also shot one of the men involved in that drug deal:
Lee Merritt is also responsible for much of the cynicism towards the DPD. He played a big role in disseminating incorrect information and stoking the fire. It’s not the first time he has done it, and I’m confident it won’t be the last.
Well, shooting and being shot is a central feature of the game. For those wondering, drug dealers operating above the street level tend to look rather middle class on the surface. They put effort into maintaining a front.
The Dallas Police Department is responsible for its own set of problems and the cynicism those problems inspire. There are reasons why the community doesn’t trust the police. Large and small reasons. Some were on display in the Guyger trial.
Drilling down into the meat of the matter, how many complaints were received by the DPD concerning JB’s alleged ongoing drug-trafficking, and what action followed? “Can’t see nothing” is a red flag.
When you are subpoenaed as a witness (as others have indicated the deceased was), you have to testify or can be found in contempt and face consequences.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
I can’t believe that I have to explicitly state this, but sidebars relating to current impeachment news and the subpoenas relating to it have absolutely nothing to do with this thread (and violate ToS anyway) so I deleted some posts.
@Publisher, when I try to google about that trial, all I get are hits about his own murder, not the other incident. But unless they have security camera footage, it might well be difficult to get a conviction without Joshua Brown’s testimony.
