AMC 10 prep

Which prep course do you think is better for the AMC 10: The Art of Problem Solving one or the one offered by EPGY at Stanford University? If any AIME qualifies have any other prep suggestions, please mention them. Thank you

…anybody?

Please do not study for the AMC. Unless you plan on scoring above a 120, it will not matter.

Just buy a bunch of the old tests, and learn your early high school math really well.

I agree with PAH…it’s not like SAT’s where you know what to study for. You either know the material or you don’t.

I always thought that the AMC wasn’t really “studyable” in the sense that each problem requires a significant amount of intellectual fortitude…?

well generally if you are good at logic and problem solving and likes math, most you’ll get into AIME with no problem.
If you really want to study then just do lots of math contest problems.
AoPS have old AMCs both 10 an 12

most people from my school who care about it have no problem passing the AMC, 57 got into AIME this year and it’s a public school

Just do math problems and learn different ways of thinking to solve the problems.
Normally the more problems you do, the faster you’ll know what to look for and how to solve something!

(from someone that made AIME since 8th grade)

Yea, take a bunch of old ones, I qualified for AIME without prep or anything, it’s pretty simple stufff.

i got 109.5 w/out studying. i will take epgy if i take amc again

yea, but as a senior their really is no point unless you want to be on USAMO

The AMCs are definitely “studyable.” I recommend buying both volumes of The Art of Problem Solving, Intro to Geometry (Richard Rusczyk), and past AMC/AIME tests. These problems can be frustrating especially if you don’t know exactly where to start. But by repeatedly doing old problems, you’re training your mind and become increasingly aware of how to approach these problems and especially how to break the geometry problems down. How far you advance in the AMC is dependent on how early you start prepping although I admit that there is a bit of “natural intuition” involved.

The Art of Problem Solving Books really help.

really? What did you get on AMC and AIME using those books as prep?
