Amc 12

I’m a junior and I want to take the AMC 12 in 2011. By that point, I’ll be in Calc 2. I that good enough or should I wait until my senior year?

Take it during your junior year. You won’t submit the score it in time for admission if you take it in senior year.

AMC does not utilize Calculus. Having taken advanced math classes doesn’t necessary mean you’ll do better. It’s competition math - it seeks to test how creatively you look at and solve problems, which is something that’s not usually developed in traditional math teaching.

Yes, don’t worry about advanced math classes for the purposes of the AMC.
I performed better on the AMC & USAMO when I was taking Precalculus than when I was taking Linear Algebra/Differential Equations.
