AMC 12B questions

does anyone remember what questions 8,9 and 18 were about??

8 was about a line passing through a parabola.

9 was about the difference between the mean and median test score for a class.

18 was about where you could form an acute triangle in the first quadrant, given one side.

8 was a funny one. i hated #11, it stopped me from going to AIME

writen AMC 11 in 10th grade, and only got 80 something :frowning:
but anyway, from what you ppl are saying! these questions are easy! line and parabola? median and means? and the quadrant triangle is #18, it sounds like a piece of cake!

20: 20, 10, 10, 5, 5, 1, 1
20:10, 10, 5, 5, 1, 1
10: 10

–14 20+ combinations

10-5, 5, 1, 1
10-5, 5, 1, 1
5-5, 1, 1
5-1, 1
1-1

–14 non-20+ combinations

1/2 are 20+

Okay, Newby:

18) Let A(2,2) and B(7,7) be points in the plane. R is the region in the first quadrant where you can place a point C, making an acute triangle ABC. What is the closest integer to the area of R?
(A) 25 (B) 39 (C) 51 (D) 60 (E) 80

No, it’s not that hard. Though questions 22, 24, and 25 were.

cmon jared, i thought 18 was hard  I got 132.5, but I skipped that one.

[You recognize me from AoPS, right?] Actually, I missed that problem during the test. I had the right method, and all, but I was sick and didn’t realize that it was an ellipse in the shape of a circle. Not knowing how to find the area of it, I just used a square…got 65 intead of 50.73.

I did horribly on this AMC. 80-something.(I will keep blaming that on being sick) But I got 101 on the A, so it’s AIME time!!

Isn’t it interesting how easy both #23’s were this year?

thanks for explaining #8. i suck at life. one question off AIME.

Ew you guys, why would you want to take the aime? Who wants to take a 15 question math test for 3 hours. Not my idea of a good time.

8 wasn’t so bad (I thought it was a trick question, LOL), 9 was extremely easy, 11 was funny (we all thought our answers were wrong so we all panicked until someone calmed down and figured that our answers were indeed right).

I thought 20 and 15 was very very easy for some reason. I was shocked at number 20 because I think it seemed more like a number 8 or 9 question.

waitt #8 was the one with y = x^2 + a^2 or something?? i thought that was number 4. if not, then what was number 4?? also, q.7 was the one about the area above the x-axis for that eq. with the abs. i got 24 the first time i did it, but the second time i checked it i thought i forgot to multiply by .5 since it was a triangle with b = 8 and h=3…lemme know if i messed up one of those values or smthing

it wasnt the area above the x-axis, it was the area enclosed by the graphs of the equations. the answer was 24.

15 WAS easy. i was pretty shocked when i saw it. i was like “*** is this problem doing over here?”

i got # 8 wrong because i skipped over the word vertex, which made a pretty big difference. and for #15 i guessed and checked and got it wrong because i had two digits which were the same. i didnt check over that i guess.

AND I KNEW #18, BUT I WAS AFRAID I WAS WRONG SO I DIDNT ANSWER IT…GRRRR
