I read on the website that 120 points on the AMC 10 will advance you to the AIME. But now the qualification is scoring within the top 1%. Does this make it harder or easier to advance?

I think it is an either/or thing. The cutoff it either 120 or the top 1%, whichever is lower. It is usually around 116, I think. AMC 12 works the same way, except it’s 100 or top 5%.

EDIT: Hm, the website does say 100 on AMC 12 or top 1% on AMC 10. I think that may be because 100 on the 12 is usually top 5%, and top 1% on the 10 is usually less than 120, so they just state it that way. Though maybe they did change the rules. I don’t know.

In any case, top 1% I think has ALWAYS been the cut for the 10 (I don’t think it ever defaulted to 120), so it should be just as hard as it always has.

well the 15 Qs in AMC 10 and 12 are identical So it mite just be better off to solve the AMC 12 Q’s, since they have the same chance of getting the first 90 points.
