If you are an American and go a university abroad for your degree, can you stay on your parent’s insurance? Does anyone have experience? I know she would need insurance for the other country, but I’m worried for when she’s back and needs to see her specialists since I don’t know she will fully change that at 18yo. Thanks.
I can’t say for your situation, but mine is abroad and MUST stay on our family insurance. The reasons given to me were that she is not abroad for the full year and would not be covered when coming home for vacations or summer. Additionally, if something catastrophic or long-term occurred, we would want to bring her home, not keep her there. For that we needed US insurance.
Because if we take her off we cannot add her back, we must keep her on.
