American Idol New Season

I’m loving the voice on that 15 year old, Jaycee I think his name was. AND the young guy with the long red curly hair… Will be interesting to see if they hang in there for any time.

Long red curly hair…Brett I think???

Yes, the boy with the long curly red hair was Brett. He sang Bohemian Rhapsody. I liked him and I thought he did a good job with a difficult song to sing well. I also liked the blonde girl with glasses who sang the Dylan song. The very young-looking J.C. was adorable and has a nice voice but I’m not sure that he’ll survive Hollywood week. I was surprised that they put the Cuban boy through. I wasn’t as impressed by him as the judges seemed to be! I was waiting the entire episode for a sob story contestant and, of course, they saved her for last. They seem to find at least one of these every year. The difference with this girl is that she actually has talent.

I enjoyed last night’s episode more than the first night. I think the judges felt a little more comfortable together, and the advice and comments given by Jennifer and, to a lesser extent by Steven, were, for the most part, informed and appropriate. If this continues to improve with each show, I think that it will be an advantage that has been lacking in the past couple of seasons.

With ~ 90 contestants already through to Hollywood, it would seem that they’re going to have to do some major initial cutting once that week starts. I’m not sure if it’s my imagination or not but it seems as though they’re doing fewer segments on people who clearly have no business being there. I think this is a good move for the show. Focus on the kids who are talented and stop the deliberate humiliation that some think makes for good tv.

Still watching???

A couple of the 15 year olds are OUTSTANDING!

I always tend to like the guys much more than the girls - every season.

That one spastic girl who performed tonight to her boyfriend who had been stationed in Iraq - DRIVES ME CRAZY! She doesn’t seem stable enough to last very long.

Current faves include: Robbie (played the piano tonight), Brett (big red hair), Stephano (? think that’s his name), John Wayne (haha that’s what I call the guy with the cowboy hat -like him much better than Scott McCready), the 15 year old who sang early tonight - Thia? and a couple others…

Based on tonight’s performance, I have the same favs as you (but we didn’t get to hear all of the solos).

I love the tone of Robbie’s voice. I like John Wayne better than Scott. I love Brett’s personality (he was so happy for the Jaycee when he made it through the group round).
I think Jaycee’s voice is going to break any day now.

There are a couple of incredibly talented 15 year old girls.

I’m still watching. Love Brett, Jaycee, John Wayne and Lauren (curly blonde hair with a flower in it- sang the Steven Tyler song last night). In the group performances on Weds, the 15-16 year olds that went on near the end, did “Somebody to love” I think (with the group of moms along) were fabulous!

I like Lauren too Sistersunnie, but she needs to lay off the Steven Tyler songs/interaction for a bit! I think every performance we’ve seen she has sang one of his songs or got him involved in her performance.

I am enjoying this season far more than expected. I think the change in tone with the new judges has lent a new happier vibe to the show. The talent is incredible, and I agree, the young ones are amazing in particular. Liked the guy with the bass, the very first girl who sang last night, the big-red-hair guy, the fabulous black guy who gave EVERYTHING to the performance and cried afterward, etc etc etc. GREAT talent. I was burned out on AI and thought I’d check it out this season, fully expecting to stop watching by now.

I appreciated that although the 4-room-drama was limited last night, I much prefer spending time hearing all those great voices. I’m liking this season after all, so far :)

I missed it last night. :frowning: Is AI on Hulu?

I almost never watch this show. It’s just not something I enjoy…I think it makes me too nervous for the contestants.

But I just had surgery on my ankle and am watching a LOT of TV these days (and missing my own normal evening rehearsals, unfortunately!), so I watched a bit last night. That one young lady who sang the Steven Tyler song was indeed impressive. But I could not stop thinking that the way she is pushing her voice, she is heading straight for some major vocal cord damage. Sooner rather than later…

I think the guys once again have the edge this season. I thought Jacob was the best in the Hollywood week solos. (He’s the one who was in tears of joy as he exited the stage and was met by his mother.) Clint is also really strong, but kicking JC, a judge’s favorite, out of his group will not be forgotten-- by the judges or the fans.

My favorite, though, is Casey (who played the base fiddle to go with his crazy vocals-- (did I just say he played the base fiddle???). He kind of reminds me of a musical version of Seth Rogan, and I think the fans will take him very far in this competition.

jshain, I’m with you!

It’s usually not till WAAAAYYY later in the season that I can remember ANY contestants names.
BUT Jacob Lusk and Casey Abrams are extraordinary!
Jacob’s vocals were amazing. ANd as wife of one upright bass player and mother of another, I had to chuckle when Casey was wheeling his bass into the studio.
Yeah, he made me a fan real fast. He seems to be a true musician with both vocal and instrumental talent.

Having fun also watching the very cool, calm and immensely talented 15 and 16 year olds.

I really like Casey too.

I had goosebumps when Jacob was singing, he is truly an extraordinary talent. I cannot wait to see how this season goes down!

I’ve never watched American Idol in the past, but this year, it is in the time spot where Bones used to be–so I’ve caught a few shows. The drama is quite compelling.

I couldn’t believe that drama queen chick made it through, the one who sang to her boyfriend but kept forgetting the words.

Do they keep some people going for a while for their entertainment/drama value?

[Glad that guy who was in the same group as his ex-girlfriend left. He was such a downer–didn’t even try…]

I like the show now. I think they have a lot of good singers this year.

On Wednesday night’s show, I thought Tim and Julie were the best by a mile during the Beatles competition. Without even knowing yet if she is in the top 24, I will be shocked if Julie is not one of the top 5 girls, let alone top 12 girls. She really has star quality-- with her look, her stage presence, and her voice.

On tonight’s show there are currently 3 girls and 2 guys who are in the top 24. The girls are Naima, Haley, and Ashthon. The guys are Clint and Paul. Although these 3 girls are obviously very talented, I didn’t think they were very unique compared to Clint and Paul. The guys are so deep this year even Deandre, who was similar to finalist Jason a couple season’s past who also played the “Uke”, couldn’t make the top 24.

Tomorrow night’s show should be good…

I hope this season lets us forget about the past judges pronto!

I say it already does!!! ^^^

Tim and Julie - wow, where did he come from?! Very, very good. We call Julie “Dress Girl” - she always wears a cute, cute dress!

Love Naima - great spirit. Don’t get Haley - she oversings to me - not appealing. Hadn’t heard Ashthon before tonight.

Paul - his duet was really, really good! They played it on the radio this morning and it sounded radio perfect! BUT, I can’t stand his mannerisms when he sings! Something about the way he moves and stuff ANNOYS me!!!

I read that Chris Medina already has a gig on one of the late shows tonight - Jay Leno maybe? Good for him - I bet he will be in demand at locally at his home for awhile - best of luck to him - he seems like a special human being. Very chill.

I’ve missed every Hollywood week show, but just saw and loved Robbie.
