American Idol New Season

I think Tom Bergeron is the best ever.

Back to AI–has anyone noticed that Randy has pretty much wiped the word “pitchy” out of his vocabulary. And Steven is not saying “beautiful” as often as he used to. Now if only they would offer some REAL constructive criticism, but with the diverse types of the contestants, it’s hard to compare one with the other. Each one is pretty darn good at his or her own style.

“What IS the full story? I remember the “Just like a man” comment now. I thought it was a good jab at him. I don’t think it was scripted…”

Don’t know the full story, definitely not scripted because it was too uncomfortable. The jist I got of it was that she was making some tweets, and Ryan was repeating portions of her tweet that, in her own words, “Make me sound like a pervert.” Something about Casey. It was just kind of odd. I like Kelly, she seems totally non-plastic after being a star for so long, and says pretty much whatever she wants.

Did anyone watch tonight? I was impressed with James but I am voting for Lauren. Could Scotty be in trouble? I hope this is the week Stefano finally goes home.

I was not that impressed with any of them tonight, but maybe I just don’t like music from the last decade. I was also distracted by my dog that kept wanting to outside. I really liked Haley tonight, more than the previous weeks, and I think Stefano should be going home.

The opening act was both visually and vocally painful.

I guess the rumors about Pia and Mark Ballas are true. It didn’t take the cameraman long to show him in the audience during the opening number watching her. His favorite singer in the competition is Casey. Hmmm, is that because Pia isn’t in the mix.

My wife, who almost NEVER watches AI but managed to see Scotty sing tonight, said “he’s about 40 years too late”. Did the judges finally read all the posts? They finally did NOT like a performance. Scotty may have landed himself in the bottom 3.

I didn’t like James song choice or performance tonight. Too corny and theatrical. He’s not going home, but it definitely wasn’t his best.

I was so curious to see if Haley could follow up her duet, during last week’s results show, with a tantalizing solo performance. It was a bit of a letdown for me, and I think she’s in the bottom 3 again.

I thought Jacob sounded good. It was safe and I hope he will not be in the bottom.

Casey’s performance was really solid and the guitar was a refreshing change from his upright bass. For me, he’s the front-runner once again. He FINALLY got the beard where it needs to be, now maybe shorten the hair a little. Steven kept the censors quite busy during his critique.

I liked Stefano tonight. He had a lot more confidence, with good vocals and dynamic performance overall.

Am I the only one getting really tired of Jimmy Iovine? Liked it better when they had new mentors on each week.

Lauren really lit it up. Perfect song choice. She and Casey were the best tonight!

The opening number did nothing for me.

Scotty - same old. Just depends on how big the country vote is.

James - winning performance I thought. Did not do a whole lot for me, personally, though.

Haley - did not live up to last week’s duet, imo. Missed a note or too in a painful way.

Jacob - well… I lost my father young, so I’m not objective. Loved loved loved it until the last 5 or 6 bars… which I thought he oversold.

Casey - there’s a real brilliance there. But… is it lost on the biggest voting demographic? (Not if the “cult” people vote, lol).

Stefano - my soft spot for him is still there. Definitely showed a different side tonight. Hey, he even got jshain to put in a good word :).

Lauren - I didn’t care for her song choice, so hard for me to evaluate. She sang it well, I suppose.

I don’t know whether the various mentors are better for the singers than Jimmy every week, but I thought what he said to Lauren showed what he can offer them.

I enjoyed the riffs they did on each other for the “human interest” portion of the show.

I liked both Casey and James tonight.

I don’t really like Lauren at all and thought she was really weak last night.

Jacob is one I don’t care for either.

Don’t know who will go home tonight, but I think we could be down to just guys soon.

I’m ready for Haley to go. When someone has this many chances to choose the right song… and the only one that is right is the duet (not her choice anyway?), and she still can’t pick a good song after the positive feedback from that, I think it’s time for her to go. But I have no clue what “America” will decide.

TrixieAnn, I was impressed with James also. I think Stefano or Haley should go home tonight.

I completely agree with jmmom.

I am not a big Stefano fan, not sure why, but based on last night’s performance I do NOT think he should be the one to leave tonight.

Elisabeth Hasselback (The View) picks as the two finalists:

Casey - check
Lauren - ???

Maybe she wants there to be a chick finalist–been a long time since there was one?

Lauren is slowly (emphasis on slowly) gaining confidence–if she can step it up a notch or two every week, she could be a contendah…

Wow, that quartet with Haley, Lauren, Jacob and Stefano was not good at all…

If you total up the amount of time I’ve spent watching this season, it might add up to an hour. However, as I was out and about today running my errands, I passed through Wheeling, where Haley is from. How do I know she’s from there? There’s a big American Idol banner as you enter the village saying Vote for Haley. Last year I remember when I’d run into the Vote for Lee DeWyze banners in Mt. Prospect (they’re neighboring villages). So I looked up this year’s contestants on the AI website to see which one was Haley, and then noticed Casey is from Wilmette, which is about 20 minutes from Wheeling. The northern Chicago burbs seem to be representin’ well.

Now Haley should go. I didn’t think the quartet was good either!!!

Yuk on the quarter.

Well, we knew it was just a matter of time for Stefano. I think the friendship with James is a big one… I wonder how long those things last?

Agree on the quartet…JUST AWFUL!!! Do the producers not see that? Better to show them frolicking at the mall. And it certainly did seem like James and Stefano were best friends. I do enjoy watching just the last 5 minutes of the show on results night. But Katy Perry was fun!

I just played back the results show… I thought the trio of guys (Casey, James, and Scotty) was equally as bad as the quartet. David Cook was just okay. The sound engineers really messed up the mixing on his performance, imo, and Katy Perry was perhaps the worst act of all. I did not go “Gaga” over her performance at all.:(

Stefano sure was an upbeat and gracious loser. James seemed more upset than Stefano. As a wild card pick, Stefano probably did much better than anyone (including himself) expected.

I didn’t like Katy Perry, so ffd through it (thought that I was just showing my geezerhood). Yeah, the trio wasn’t anything to rave about and I also thought David Cook was just okay, altho I like him. Stefano is a sweetheart.

I’m not a “professional” AI watcher, so I don’t know: do kids like him have a future in the biz?

The only part I saw was Katy Perry and the very end. I normally like her, but I thought she was a yawner.
