American Idol New Season

I don’t think the judges are doing the contestants any good at all. I am glad to see Jacob go, should have been out a few weeks ago. I think the judges have inflated his ego too much and it has not helped him. I felt so bad for Lauren, really showed her age tonight. I cannot imagine the pressure that child is under! She needs to get her nerves under control for next week. Haley is on a roll and her confidence is amazing. To come back the way she did last night was incredible. She could take it all!

fishymom, I was going to post the same thing about Lauren. I felt really bad for her, but I know they all have to be exhausted, and it’s so much pressure, made worse when you’re tired. I’m sure I would have cracked by now. LOL But Haley seems to be a rock. I love her attitude and have newfound respect for her. Personally, I hope James goes next, but I am probably in the minority with that opinion!

I’m ready for James to be the next to go. Lucky for him, he has a huge voting fan base of young teenage girls. He bores me just as Adam Lambert did last season–if you’ve heard him once, you’ve heard him a million times.

From the ‘H in the room’ perspective - why is this show on seemingly every single night? It’s the same thing over and over and when it’s on my W wants to watch it. Fortunately I don’t really pay that much attention to it but it seems like it’s on constantly and when it’s not - that dance show is on!

Not quite every night. Performance night is Wed. and results night is Thurs.

Wasn’t it also on Mon/Tues? When they don’t have a new show they seem to repeat the same show they had the night before - or maybe I’m mixing it up with the dancing show.

They should just crown the cowboy already and be done with it.

(No offense intended here - just singing/dancing overload for me)

I’m a West Coaster and tonight’s results show hasn’t aired yet but it’s nice see that the voters appeared to get it right tonight and I’m not sure who the others in the bottom 3 even were.

At this stage of the competition I think the voters tend to support the most popular singer and not necessarily the most talented. In that regard, I think Haley (who I haven’t supported all season) has a very realistic chance to win it all. When she wasn’t performing well a few weeks ago, and was in the bottom 3 week after week, she managed to survive being the lowest vote-getter. Now she is getting “hot”, at the most critical time in the competition. If she could stay out of getting sent home when she was under-performing, I would think the sky’s the limit when she’s nailing it. Her poise under pressure makes her one of the front runners now, imo, along with Scotty who has been the coolest competitor of all. I think Lauren and James have showed vulnerablity that may be a sign of “weakness” and/or make them less popular with the voters. I thought James comment about “leaving it all on the stage every week” last night made him look a little desperate. It will be interesting to see how James and Lauren, who I personally believe are the most talented of the remaining singers, will survive down the home stretch.

I think Jimmy Iovine has been a major disappointment with his mentoring, given his resume in the music industry. Like Casey and James did several weeks ago, Jacob should probably NOT have listened to him as much. He probably was still going home, but it would have been nice seeing him go out on a “gospel high note”, singing what only he can sing best.

UCLA
You must be sitting with your W when she is watching Dancing With the Stars… That is going on right now as well. Maybe Glee too?
WATCH OUT- SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE is coming in 2 weeks!! (my fave)

^^ Arghhhh…

I don’t know anything about Glee so she doesn’t watch that - don’t tell her about it.

Agreed. Apparently, someone decided there has been a judging vacuum and that Jimmy would fill it tonight. I thought it was a little harsh for the kids to listen to… but no harm done.

It was Jacob’s time to go.

I did like his sing-out.

ucla_dad: I’m sure she knows about Glee. And now there’s The Voice. Call my H - you and he can hang out. I’m just proud that I don’t do Survivor, Big Brother, Amazing Race, Bachelor/ette, or (can you spell “bottom of the barrel”?) Jersey Shore or any of the Real (?!!?) Housewives. Hey! I’ve got my standards ;).

That’s how I felt about Jacob’s singing. Not sorry to see him go.

Lauren is a basket case every week–she’s crying when others were leaving. Really crying when she might be the one to go. Agree with Jimmy Iovine and the other judges that she needs to sing with all out abandon and confidence–and I thought she did it with her first number. They need to raise the age limit requirement back up for Idol contestants.

Jacob has had a slow and steady fall since his God Bless The Child was anointed by Randy as being the best Idol song ever (or whatever it was he said). I think that it started when he did that Michael Jackson song and said that if he were in the bottom 3 it would be because America couldn’t look at itself in the mirror. America said, “What the ****?” and promptly put him into the bottom 3.

Haley has made an amazing comeback–judges still aren’t 100% behind her, but she is peaking at the right time.

Also agree that Jimmy Iovine really had some real on the mark comments tonight. I think he wasn’t too happy during the session with James where James walked out and said that he couldn’t do any more work that day. Hello–not professional–Jimmy, Sheryl Crow, the studio musicians, etc. all had things they could have been doing too.

James and Lauren look vulnerable…which isn’t something they’ve looked before. Next week’s Idol could prove really interesting!

jmmom, ucla-dad,
Too funny!
Don’t forget about America’s Next Top Model, What Not to Wear, and Say Yes to the Dress!!! These shows are great “surfing” shows- you can watch several at once and flip around on the commercials. They re-cap so much from each segment at the next segment you do not miss anything!! Same with all the Housewives and Brittany… I actually catch up my reading and bills while doing watching any or all of these.
What a crazy mass culture we have these days!!!
p.s. I do “suffer” through many an evening of watching Stanley Cup plus MLB plus xyz sport with my H, so it’s only fair! We have not tried to do all of the above on split-screen yet, maybe next…
Happy Surfing to all.

If that’s the wedding dress show - my D switches to that sometimes. The worst part is that whenever shows like that are on it always seems like a mini-marathon where they have a half dozen shows back to back followed by another mini-marathon of a show just like it or one like the cake and cupcake competition shows.

But given all the shows you’ve mentioned maybe I should consider myself lucky because they don’t watch all of those you cited and really don’t watch TV that much anyway except for American idol and the dancing shows.

I’ll admit though that they don’t always fully appreciate it when I switch it to some show on building cars, collectible car auction shows, various ‘How they make that’ factory type of shows, reality medical shows, and the History, Discovery, Military, etc. channels.

Sorry I derailed this thread - it just seemed to be every night this week of these shows.

I did hear enough of AI though to get the idea the cowboy guy should win. He not only has the voice, he has a lot of talent, especially for someone his age (but they all have talent).

Heeeyyyyy, The Amazing Race is awesome.

ucsducladad, you’re making me smile because you sound so much like my H. I was just going to ask you if you watch Speed Channel, Barrett-Jackson, or Top Gear because I know from previous posts that you’re a car guy, like my H.

jmmom, don’t be proud about not watching the Race! Seriously, it’s the best ‘reality’ type show on tv.

What did Jacob say? Something like “America has had time to love me”? It sounded egotistical to me, maybe I misunderstood… Struck me wrong like the “mirror” comment when he did the Michael Jackson song…

“I’m just proud that I don’t do Survivor, Big Brother, Amazing Race, Bachelor/ette, or (can you spell “bottom of the barrel”?) Jersey Shore or any of the Real (?!!?) Housewives. Hey! I’ve got my standards”

jmmom, But hopefully you do So You Think You Can Dance. After all, it is performersmom’s favorite (and mine) as well!

PS: Jimmy makes a better judge than coach…

Agree with all who say Jacob was getting to be a bit much…big ego without the vocals to back it up, at all. Jimmy was spot on with his analysis too. Love Steven Tyler but if he says “That was beautiful…” one more time…

I confess to watching ‘The Amazing Race’. That and ‘The Apprentice (and Celebrity Apprentice)’ are the two competition type shows I’ll actually try to watch. I thought they both sounded silly at first but after watching them a couple of times anyway, I guess I got sucked into them. I think that’s what happens with these types of shows.

My poor H is right there with ucsducladad since he has two D’s! H is a good sport about watching the singing and dancing shows we like along with the trashy reality TV.

H loves Top Gear and Dr. Who which we all like to watch.
