American Idol New Season

Worst vocal performance: Ashton

Worst dressed: Lauren (please assign her a clothing consultant ASAP)

Worst dancer: Paul

Youdon’tsay - I agree with you. Haley was one of my least favorites - for the way she sounded and the way she looked. She needs to lose the Toddlers and Tiaras look.

How much coaching on “non-musical” things do you think they get? IOW, does someone help them pick out their clothes, their hairstyle, etc? Seems like SOMEONE must have been around to look at these outfits/hairstyles, and say “oh…that looks FANTASTIC”. And when they rehearse, were the producers allowed to say something like, “Hey, Paul, you look like you’re having a seizure.” ? I feel kinda bad since they will get votes based on many things that have been decided for them (for example, the arrangements).

Having said that, last nights show did not impress me. When the judges were lukewarm to the first singer, I agreed with them…but at the end when they played all the clips I didn’t think she was all that bad. Not a REALLY GREAT night for anyone, really.

justamom, I agree about the clip of the first singer (Lauren) being better than her actual performance. And the girl who sang “Blue” (Haley) did a decent job with the vocals, but it was just too slow. I don’t know if that was her fault or the band’s. I will say again that I like the boys much better than the girls. I was pleasantly surprised with James’ performance. All he’s ever done is scream, but when he toned that down, he actually has a pretty voice.

Definitely like the boys best this year, especially Casey and James. Looking forward to seeing Adam Lambert tonight.

Watched a bit for the first time this season … fell asleep, though. I saw the first few. LOVED Casey. The others were underwhelming. Sorry, I don’t think yelling is singing. Pia is not all that great, and the Diana Ross wannabe is no Diana Ross. Not sure the name of the guy who did Ryan Adams - not all that awesome, either.

Loved Casey and James. I am ready to buy their albums. Although I am not a country fan, I did like Lauren and Scotty. I don’t know why but I think Lauren has potential and I like the richness of Scotty’s voice.

I think Pia is over rated/boring and Niama is “interesting enough” to get another chance.

I like Paul’s quirkiness and want to see him have another chance because this week his performance was weak.

The rest are totally forgettable.

momoboston: I could have written your post! I agree with your assessment of this week’s performances, with one exception–I loved Haley’s “Blue” although many found her rendition as Randy did–too “sleepy”.

For me, the boring one is Pia–really beautiful voice in general, but I too find her a snooze.

I wasn’t planning to watch AI this year. Last year I gave up on it mid-season… it was so boring and I couldn’t stand the banter between the four judges. This year it seems fresh. I like the three judges very much and the talent is excellent. I think de-emphasizing instruments is good. It forces each singer to step up his or her stage presence. In general boys seem stronger than the girls. My favorites are Casey, James, and Pia. Ashton needs to go… never enjoyedher. I think tonight Ashton, Karen, and maybe Jacob will be bottom three.

Gosh, the show tonight seems so darned long and boring.

So what is Adam Lambert doing on the show? Is this going to be a permanent gig for him nowadays?

They always have guest performers on the results shows–a lot of former idol contestants come back. I’m glad Ashthon is out. Anyone heard why Casey is in the hospital? Hope it does not keep him from competing. I look forward to seeing what he’s going to do next. And of course, I don’t want him to be seriously ill, even if he weren’t on AI.

Same reason he was a guest mentor last year. Trying to get them some ratings.

Didn’t get to watch tonight. Who was kicked off?

Ashton. Good move IMO

Ashton is out.

It must have been painful for Berry Gordy to watch her last night doing Diana Ross. Thanks for spoiling the drama:)

I’m on the west coast and it starts in five…

“According to TMZ.com, Abrams had to be hospitalized for severe stomach pains. This is the second time in three weeks that he has had to go to the hospital. The first time was due to a bleeding ulcer.”

Several times last night, I caught a glimpse of Thia (the 15-year-old, dark-haired one) in the background. She looked like her cat had just died every time I saw her. She seemed really upset by the criticism Wednesday night, and didn’t look any happier last night. Wonder if the pressure is getting to her? It has to be hard on them all, especially the younger ones.

I agree. I think Thia is young and reserved and a bit overwhelmed. She has a great voice and could grow into performing. Did you see Barbra Streisand on the Grammy’s this year?? - she looked just as pained. Lauren is also SO young and as bubbly as she is naturally, her tears last night seemed very authentic. I cannot imagine the pressure and desire to not screw it up - at any age.
