How can I take it if my school doesn’t offer it?

Why not get your school to offer it? It’s not as hard as one would think. It’s relatively cheap and easy to set up.

Unfortunately, they don’t want to do it. They don’t have a day to spare for the test.

You don’t have to spare a day. You need 75 minutes. It doesn’t have to be during school either; you can do it after school (as my school often does.) Depending on the number of contestants, you need a classroom or two and a proctor for each. These aren’t really significant demands. Sweeten the deal - tell them that you’ll pay for it (it’s inexpensive, you and students taking it could easily split cost.) I went to a middle school that had never heard of these contests before, and my parents paid about $50 to have my entire math class take the AMC-8.

That said, if you absolutely can’t do it, you can

Take it at another school by registering as a visitor with the AMC (course, that school has to let you, but most have no problem with that. There’s also some math circles/clubs that let you do it.) This costs you about $30 though.

Try to create a group of people and take it as a homeschool group or something to that extent. Never investigated this problem myself.
