Hi, i need a little bit of input on the american opportunity tax credit…
In my case i am a undergrad student, this is my first year and and i received financial aid, which cover my full tuition and fees. I received $5,500 from pell and $1,512.00 from tap for each semester.i got back about $1300 which was left over for the fall semester. I know that i didnt pay anything out of pocket, but i wanted to know if i could claim the american opportunity credit, because i used my left over financial aid money on room and board, food, and transportation. But i purchased books, supplies and a computer out of my pocket. Would i still be able to claim it, regardless if i have financial aid and would i have to file my financial aid on my return since i never got any tax papers from them. Thank u
