@iammom5 she did not get an email.
She was admitted for the spring and for The mentorship program for the fall
Fin aid was awful so it looks like she will pass on American

@Riley9119 I didn’t get an email, but I was able to make a portal and it says I was accepted so I would say no
@baxter Thanks. S probably would be hesitant to go if he was only admitted for spring also but I’m not too optimistic he will even get that
@nathancard same here
There are concerns with the Fall Mentorship/Spring Matriculation. A student has worked very hard in high school, graduates with excellent credentials and now must spend the summer finding an internship in Washington DC. It’s definitely not for everyone. These students are typically housed with other internship and transfer students with a possibility to move in with other freshmen in the spring. Huge concerns for some: 1) Students offered spring matriculation receive $0 scholarship money while attending American. 2) If a student decides American is not the right place, credit for the internship is only recognized at American (matriculation begins in the spring) and will not transfer to another university. American seems offers this to students who exceed the qualifications to get it and will receive better financial aid packages from other universities with higher admissions standards than American. Admissions figures if a student really wants to attend, the student will forgo strong financial aid packages from other schools and pay full price to attend American. Anyone receiving the Fall Mentorship should read all the fine print and ask lots of questions.
@@vstressedout I’m from the danville/san ramon area. I got an email telling me about admitted students events happening in SF and thats how I found out. I checked my mail right after getting the email and the packet was there.
My twin brother is African American and had a 1490 out of 1600 on the SAT. He was accepted to Middlebury and Williams but waitlisted to American like what??? That’s just straight yield protection
According to @cisobelm CA applicants should be notified by Wednesday or Thursday. I can’t wait lol
Waitlisted. Not my top choice but not surprising considering the low admission rate this year.
@lovingcollege Interesting. I assumed my daughter made the “B” list when she got the mentorship program. I figured there was not enough room on campus for the additional admits but it does seem there is some room for the interns. While the international could be interesting, I would think being one of the few freshmen segregated in dorms from the others would be demoralizing.
You are right that my daughter has less expensive options!
accepted from chicago!
I was overconfident with this one. 30 act(35 math and science, 32 superscored) 2000 old sat, and what I thought were pretty decent extra curriculars. Waitlisted here AND Johns Hopkins. I’m thinking it is because I didn’t do the supplement, what a dumb move. Going to the university of Alabama with a hefty scholarship and couldn’t be happier.
nothing in the mail today either… I’m not enjoying this waiting game
My son is able to make an account on the portal now but hasn’t. No email and no letter. I’m hoping the letter comes out tomorrow, as he was told it was mailed out yesterday. Wondering if being able to now make an account means anything? Good news is he found out last night he got into Brandeis.
@InsatiableLeo726 The fact that you were offered Fall Mentorship is awesome and matriculating in the spring may be perfect for you. There are definitely questions to ask. Fall mentorship students are typically housed with other internship and transfer students with a possibility of moving in with other freshmen in the spring. Students offered spring matriculation receive $0 scholarship money while attending American. If a student decides American is not the right place, credit for the internship is only recognized at American and will not transfer to another university. It is widely known that American offers the Fall Mentorship to students who exceed the qualifications to get in and will receive strong financial aid packages from other universities with higher admissions standards than American. Admissions may believe that the student is not serious about attending AU and that if the student really wants to attend, he/she will forgo great financial aid from other schools and pay full price to attend American. Anyone receiving receiving Fall Mentorship and Spring Admissions should read all the fine print and ask lots of questions.
from NJ and waitlisted. This was supposed to be a safety but American is trying to bring its rankings up by having higher yields. Accepted at BU, Boston College, Richmond, and Kenyon, so it goes to show stats can hurt or help you.
Interviewed
4.7 GPA, 31 ACT
Senior Class President, NHS, etc
Thought I would be a good fit but guess not, oh well
@jjohnross S (we are in NJ too) was waitlisted as well. Also was a “safety”. He’s taking his name off (for those others who are waiting)As suspected, waitlisted and rejections went out at the end. He’s sad about the rejection but knows based on stats he falls in the high range so who knows why. Will be accepting his offer from NYU or Northeastern, although D.C. was the place he really wanted to be in. Doubt GW is even remotely possible since he didn’t make the AU cutoff. Good luck to all here, everyone was so exceptionally nice and caring to each other in this group during this process, AU attracted a great group of people this year, hope they appreciate the great class of 2021 they’re getting!!.
Did he receive a big or small envelope? was he able to make an account through the portal prior to receiving his mail?Sounds like your son got in to some great schools. Good luck to him.
@iammom5 yeah i don’t understand waitlisting high stat kids when they might want to come, when their test scores and grades could improve their class? Doesn’t make sense. I’m waiting on GW as well and was asked to mail financial info so hopefully that is a good sign.
Also I did not get any email or access to the portal
Waitlisted from NY. Had a 31 and a 3.75 UW. I visited campus twice last year and I figured it was clear that I wasn’t applying just for the hell of it.
Oh well!
